She needed some humble pie. She was not a complete fighter to begin with.
The women's divisions are about ankle deep right now. It's just like the early days of MMA and the UFC, where one person that's really good at one thing can dominate the scene because there's no one else that knows what they're doing. Rousey fought a woman that has superb stand up game, the time and money to actually train other disciplines, and wasn't the least bit buying into the hype of Ronda Rousey.
I would be more impressed if they could bake a cake.
If Rousey's jaw isn't broken I'd be shocked. Once dames start with the baby brain they get distracted.
No one wants to listen when I say it, but what I say is true. Rousey is a modern day, female version of Royce Gracie. She looks so unstoppable because of the competition. Royce Gracie, like Rousey, was extremely good at one thing. A strong ground game. Now? In his prime he'd barely be average now. One day people will look back on her the same way. One dimensional and far from some unstoppable fighter. She's fighting nobodies, for the most part, now because there isn't a lot of women that are MIXED martial artists. It's a lot of one trick ponies. It'll evolve over the next 10 years or so and we'll see plenty of females that would absolutely embarrass her at any point in her career.
That said, I knew if Holm could avoid the ground game that she'd absolutely destroy Rousey. Didn't expect her to be so strong or able to shrug off takedowns though. Glad she did. I've always hated Ronda, and it isn't even really her fault. The way the UFC uses her to market WMMA. Playing her off like she's GSP or Anderson Silva. She isn't unstoppable. She isn't great. She isn't this once in a lifetime fighter. She has a good ground game, and she was protected. Period. That's it.
Dana hid her away from Cyborg like his life depended on it. He knew how much money she was bringing him. After the Holms fight, I can see why. Cyborg isn't as technical as Holm, but she'd put Ronda in a coma if she landed anything on her.
Holm exposed Ronda's stand up game and striking, which is not a surprise when you consider Holm's background. Ronda hasn't fought anyone near the experience of Holly Holm, nor has she fought anyone as athletic as Holm. It is expected that there will be a rematch in July at UFC 200. I would bet money that Ronda won't dare to try and keep that fight standing. She will try and try to take Holly down and go for her signature armbar.
Rousey can go ahead and try to grapple in the rematch, but expect same results. She may be fantastic at judo, but that's not a discipline the teaches to engage for the take down. It's a reactionary art, not an offensive one. She doesn't really know how to close the gap and shoot. Add to that, Holm has decent take down defense.
I am bothered by the constant stories of how this is the greatest upset in UFC history like Holm is a bum. She has been a champion boxer and kick boxer. Rousey couldn't close the distance or maybe she wanted to test her hands since she didn't do her usual rush. At that point it turn into a dirty boxing match and she got destroyed.
Nothing will top GSP/Serra for biggest upset. This fight wasn't even that big of an upset. Only in the eyes of idiots that believe the hype Dana and the UFC made for Ronda.
Funny how Dana thinks a one sided ass kicking like this makes sense for an immediate rematch. Bet he wouldn't be saying that if this fight happened exactly this way but with Ronda winning. He wants his poster girl to get her belt back so she can make him some more money. Sorry Dana, she isn't the best. You've got one more big shot at getting money with her. Build up the PPV where Cyborg ends her once and for all. You've milked her long enough, time to get a new cash cow.

I normally don't watch UFC and in particular don't get the thrill of watching these women beat each other to pulp.
But, I did watch the replay of this match.
1)Rousey looked to be out of shape
2)She was one dimensional it appears and basically was like a wrestler who can headlock inferior opponents but when you go to high level high school wrestling headlocks rarely work. Not saying she was doing headlocks but using that as a comparison
3)The other woman was a far superior athlete and boxer who just peppered an inferior opponent, Rousey. Rousey met a truly high level champion who was skilled and followed a good gameplan.
4)I think Rousey could fight this woman 10 times and she might win 2 out of 10 times. I don't think it is really even that close.
5)Rousey should have retired at the hype and enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame and carried it over to an acting, modeling career.
