Just watched a FB video clip by Democrat Bernie Sanders. He promised so much free stuff I lost count.Back in 1928 Herbert Hoover promised a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage. Now Bernie says a free college education for every child and another trillion dollars for rebuilding crumbling infrastructure. I thought Obama already spent that money to solve the problem. He also said that 35,000,000 million were still without health coverage. How could this be possible?#morehotairfromaguywhowantsyourvote

His spending is paid for and by some accounts would allow for paying down some of the national debt.

I think that a government's job is to do collectively those things we can't do as individuals. In that regard I'm all for infrastructure spending. Improved infrastructure creates the tools for job creation.

One look around the roads and bridges of WV proves government needs to spend on infastructure

Yes, taxes so what? I would rather my taxes paying for college educations and not new prison cells

I mean we did bailout the banks and other corporation for their mistakes so why not bailout poor college graduates who fell for the BS dream of you go to college and graduate and you will find work after graduating. At least they didn't break any laws and regulations while becoming poorer and poorer everyday

Ever been to NY state? The roads are worse there than here by a mile. I drove from NYC to West Point last month and it was like dodging a mine field. Terrible.

Honestly, I haven't travelled north of Westchester county in over a decade. And I do agree the roads in NYC are terrible but I attribute that to the volume of cars on the road

Before they cut one cent to americans stop giving it to people outside our borders. People i know who are on welfare live like dogs

I'd be p***ed if the government forgave student loans. I've sacrificed to assure that my kids got out of college without debt and loans while some of their friends borrowed money out the wazoo. Debt forgiveness would just encourage more debt while penalizing those who paid their own way or decided not to go to college all together because they couldn't afford it. People who borrowed money knew exactly what they were doing and should pay it back like everyone else who borrows it.

Who really knows what they are doing at 18? I was lucky enough to receive grants and a family who didn't want me or my brother to pay back student loans. But come one these loan companies take advantage of people, slap them 20%+ interest rates and then expect people to spend their entire life to pay back these loans

That would be public funding there chief.

And I agree bailing out student loans would be terrible. I wasn't lucky enough to go to school with out loans but I've worked my ass off, majored in something I knew would get me a job out of school, not in something stupid like 17thncentury feminist studies. I will have my loans paid off hopefully within a couple of years. it would piss me off to no end to forgive loans.

If you find it difficult to pay off college loans, why would you want someone else to suffer the same hardship?

Because there is a fairness issue with some people working their tail off and making sacrifices while another person gets to skate at the expense of the taxpayer.

Hey while we are at it I would like to recommend some more free stuff. Why not add grad school? Med school or Law school take your pick. Raise the minimum wage to say 35 dollars an hour! After all everyone deserves nice stuff, RIGHT?Everyone should get a Govt BMW car to drive to work and a free 2 week vacation to Disney world....cause living in a make believe world is better than dealing with the realities of the real world.I also think we all deserve a 10,000 sq foot house at the beach cause we all deserve the chance to relax after a hard day at work. 16 trillion in national debt.... peanuts! Lets go for the world record- How about 100 million. Lets party like it's 1999!!!!

I don't know if you're replying to me but if you are I never said I was having trouble paying off my loans. I knew going into it that I was going to have to pay my loans back. I made sacrifices up front to be able to do that. I didn't live off of my loans I got a job and only used loans to pay for school. People should suffer the same hardship because it teaches them the value of education and that if you borrow money you have to pay it back.

Someone else not having to go through the tough times that you have doesn't cost you a thing. Matter of fact, it might just help you.

The Huffington Post or the WSJ..... Hmmmm I think I will take the word of the paper that is respected worldwide, the WSJ not tabloid trash like the Huffington Post

So, you won't take the word of the very economist, Gerald Friedman, that the WSJ cited in the very piece they wrote. Can't fool you.

Yeah, 'cause you're the only one that knew in advance they would have to repay loans.

I guess by your logic everyone should just struggle because you did. I hate when people use their experience as a mean to speak for everyone else. News flash, nobody gives a shit about your struggle. Everyone struggles at some point in life

Public Funding = Taxes and like I said, I would rather my taxes go to paying for college education for the youth then it go towards building Jails. I mean just the state of California alone has built 22 prisons and counting while they have only built 1 university since 1980. But you don't see the issue there

I mean just the state of California ... while they have only built 1 university since 1980.

college enrollment nationally has been declining the last 5 years, and your solution to the problem is investing large sums of money in building and developing more Universities?

YES!!!!! maybe just maybe providing free college education will inspire them to go to college instead of learning life on the streets and in Jail cells. Maybe just maybe if this government invested more in education instead of taking money out of the pool, we wouldn't be lagging behind the rest of the world in education. We are now what 37th in quality of education in the world. That's pathetic for a country that prides itself in being the best

The point is you borrow something you pay it back. Sure I've sacrificed I don't expect everyone's experiences to be the same as mine but I do expect people to repay loans that they borrow.

And it's declining because it's getting expensive and now Jobs are paying a college graduate the same amount as someone with a GED

i didn't mention the jails aspect, but discussing the universities aspect, so you're problem to bringing down the cost of tuition is investing billions in creating new universities, when current universities aren't even at their capacity?

What's capacity for a university?? I guess it's more important to make sure jails and prisons are at capacity or over-capacity by filling them with people who should be in drug rehab centers and mental hospitals
