NAMES on the BACK of JERSEYS

Should be for championship game and bowl. They are both important games that the players worked hard to get to.

Speaking of bowl games, I see where the Ears have future chances of landing a bowl invitation with a 5-7 record. They may want to reconsider getting rid of Holgerson...he seems to be the coach that can get those 5 wins a year.

Uh, Holgy still has Sun Belt caliber teams like Kansas and Iowa State left to play, so getting more than 5 wins seems pretty good. They just beat Texas Tech, easily the best win they'll have in the regular season, sort of like our win over Southern Miss, probably the only team with a winning record that we will have beaten during the regular season.

I miss this...any chance it comes back?!?
As was stated above, in the bowl game. I would think that every Herd fan knows all the numbers of our players well enough by now to not need their name on the back.
Danny has done the same thing with the basketball team. The names are NOT on them.

Unbelievable, that just tells me we have entirely too many bowl games. And to think we could have a 16 team playoff if not for the rediculous amount of meaningless bowl games and the amount of money tied to them.

And yet they keep adding bowls. I don't think a team should be in a bowl unless they have 7 wins. If you lose as many as you win do you really deserve post season play? And don't get me started in teams getting bids that are below .500.

See we wonder why these players nowadays like AJL and Leggett have trouble following rules then call out loyalty when they are held accountable. This new generation gets awarded for partcipation. Some youth leagues now give the same size trophy to every player. Then you award teams that aren't any good then you wonder why these kids don't want to work hard for anything.

I mean they just added a bowl that is only going to be broadcast to ASN. I mean really.

I enjoy bowl season as much as anyone but some if these bowls are unwatchable.

The bowls are more about money and advertising for the bowl sponsors than the actual game of football.

Right now there are 49 teams that are bowl eligible. There are also 38 teams on the bubble with 4 and 5 wins.

CUSA: 4 eligible and 4 on the bubble
SEC: 7 eligible and 4 on the bubble
ACC: 7 eligible and 2 on the bubble
Big XII: 4 eligible and 3 on the bubble
Pac-12: 6 eligible and 5 on the bubble
B1G: 7 eligible and 4 on the bubble
MAC: 4 eligible and 4 on the bubble
AAC: 4 eligible 5 on the bubble
SBC: 3 eligible and 2 on the bubble
MWC: 3 eligible and 5 on the bubble

There are 41 bowls for the upcoming bowl season according to the wikipedia 2025 bowl page. That equals 82 bowl bids. So 82 out of 128 teams get post season play.

So that means there are 33 bids still remaining. 20 of the 38 bubble teams currently sit at 4 wins. If my math is correct and wikipedia's team pages are updated then there is a strong possibility of several losing teams in bowls because I can guarantee you all those 4 wins teams will not reach 6 wins.

It's gotten out of hand and more bowls are being talked about being added every day. Don't we get a couple more next season?

What would Marshall's record be playing WVU's schedule?

3-5 which is only 1 game worse than WVU. At worse Marshall would be 6-6 with your schedule. Depends on which Texas team shows up

Well, let's be fair. If we got the $$ WVU gets from the Big 12, I think our record would be better. But if you expect us to compete against that schedule on our current budget, then yeah, probably not good. But again, what is the point of this?

this

increase our budget 200%, give us a few years recruiting with said budget and the benefit of being in a P5 conference to entice recruits... and let's find out...............

just like you idiots throw around, "we'd be undefeated with Marsha's schedule." no, you'd still drop a game or two every year just like when you were in the Little East and had 10x the resources as all the other schools combined...

For those talking about losing teams being in bowl games.. It doesn't matter. As long as these bowl games get sponsors, some asses in seats, and a television deal; they don't give a damn who plays. Unfortunate, but true.

lol the best part is they actually think wvu fans are going to show up for a 5-7 team in a bowl game...

Hell, they couldn't even sell out their BCS bowl games...at the very least, the one against Clemson...in what they like to pretend to consider "their backyard" in Florida.

WOW, we got way off of my initial topic. This is just my opinion, but I think it looks better having their names on the back.

1 - Who made the decision?
2 - What's the benefit, or is it just the uniform design?
3 - If i'm not mistaken we've always had the names on the back until Doc took over, NO?

Any ways, just dig the look better with the names. Also gives players more recognition. I really like our uniforms and helmets otherwise. The ALL WHITE unis are my favorite. Just would be awful nice to see those names back on there ;)

Someone posted something about confusing opponents by not having the names on the back. That makes 0 sense to me. Sure hasn't given OSU any problems. LOL

If I'm not mistaken, the name removal happened near the time AJ Graham left and Cato had his meltdown on the sidelines. Doc decided to make it that the team "earned" their names on the back...on top of Cato also saying something about "The front of the jersey is all that matters, not the name on the back."
Upon that, the names got removed and fans complained for having to memorize numbers within 2 digits and didn't think enough to just wait for the announcers to, you know, SAY the name of the player in the play.

When the bowl game came around, Doc put the names back on there...also when we played in the C-USA title games...because at that point, the team had "earned" their individual identities back...and for good reason.

The names weren't actually removed until the start of the 2013 season when the theme of that year's schedule poster was something along the lines of "We play for the front."

They also weren't on for either of the C-USA title games, just the bowl games.

OK. I can understand and respect that. Thanks for the explanation. I was alway curious. I think the idea and concept is great. I just liked the way the unis looked with the names. However, I'll take wins with NO jersey names or losses with jersey names all day, everyday ;)
