Navy fired their OC late last night after their second game of the season. They had scored 7 points or less in five straight games including against Marshall.

How long until the head coach is fired?

As was stated on the broadcast, Navy recruits a different level student athlete. Having said that, Coach N has been there 16 seasons. Lengyel was AD for, like 20 years. They don’t have a history of making knee-jerk reactions. My ? - You are a school whose bread & butter is the triple option. Are they going to change their stripes at this point??

True, Ivin Jasper had been there for over twenty years (they have not removed his bio yet), the head coach has also been on the staff for over twenty years. With that much job security, would the head coach fire an assistant two games into a season if he did not feel his ass is on the line?

I agree 06. You can’t easily alter the triple option very much, no matter who the OC is….
I think the playcalling was a bigger issue than the playbook.

The biggest problem is they just don’t have the offensive talent they’ve had in the past.

My guess is the head coach and OC had a come to meeting during which the OC forgot who is in charge. Pack your stuff.

They could have maybe given Marshall a game if their coach didn't keep going for it on 4th in the first half. It surprised me, because when you're running a clock-control offense, playing from behind isn't something you want to do. He put them in such a hole that by the time their players finally found their footing, it was over.

And that play where he did a hard count on 4th, then called timeout, then ran a play anyway was something you'd laugh at if your buddy did it in a video game.

So Navy has three options now --

1. Promote from within (keep the current Triple Option playbook)
2. Hire from FCS/DII (find a rare team that runs the TO and grab their guy)
3. Totally change their offense and suck for 2-3 years until they can recruit a passing QB.

Funny. It comes out in a story today that the OC was fired for refusing to get vaccinated! He tried for a religious exemption, but the Navy put him in dry dock ………😳

It looks like a circus at Navy with the AD firing the OC after the game without the HC making that decision. Ken needs to be careful falling on the sword for Jasper and might lose his job in the process since Navy isn't very good this year. I don't think this change makes much of a difference and have not been good the last 2 years.
I wonder if the HC did not want Jasper to be the scapegoat.
