We all know of the popular series Netflix has: "Narcos," "Orange is the New Black," "House of Cards," "Breaking Bad," "The Walking Dead," etc.

Do any of you watch any other series on there, particularly Netflix originals? "Frontier" is one I think many of you would like. It focuses on the fur trade in North American during the 1700s and can get pretty violent. It has been picked up for another season. I give that a 4 out of 5 stars.

"Bloodline" is one I started watching last week and am already through the first season. It is a modern day family-drama set in Islamadora (Florida Keys). I like it so much that I downloaded some episodes on an iPad and watch it in my car when I have long highway drives at night. The third and final season just wrapped production last week. It's as close to 5 star as I have watched so far.

Some others I plan on watching include "Merli," "Nobel," "Peaky Blinders," "Medici," "Longmire," and "People Just Do Nothing."

Bloodline is a bad ass show. I'm anxiously awaiting its return, I'm sad it's the last.

Shameless is awesome also I highly suggest it as well

I'll have to check out Shameless.

It's crazy looking into some of the actors in the Netflix originals. Many of them are "part-time" actors, where they have something else going on (musicians, college students, etc.). Kevin Rayburn on Bloodline is a damn good musician. John Rayburn's daughter (who is cute in the show but looks young) is actually 21 years old and goes to the University of Florida for school (it helps that the show was shot in the Florida Keys). She is hot in real-life. Tomorrow, I'm meeting Sissy Spacek's (the mother in the show) daughter. She is a good musician and is playing at SXSW for a few days. Her band is then performing alongside the actors who plays Kevin Rayburn at a music fest in the Keys in a few weeks. I'm thinking about using that as an excuse to head down there.

I'm very impressed by the quality of acting in that series. I know some of them have great careers as actors (Sissy Spacek, Chloe Sevigny, the guy who plays John Rayburn), but the others are really good. Danny Rayburn is award worthy in it, Kevin Rayburn is impressive, and Meg Rayburn needs a few nights with me.

I'm sure you both have checked out Last Chance U already.

Narcos is great but unless you speak Spanish you need to read the captions to keep up. It's not the type of show you can watch while catching up on emails or whatnot.

I agree with everything you said about bloodline. Wait though, the second season is even better then the first. Danny and Johns relationship makes that show.

I've always been a day late and dollar short when it comes to certain series. By the time I've heard about it, they're in season 3 or 4 or later. Just finished Breaking Bad over the New Year's holiday. Speaking of being late to the party, I just subscribed to Netflix and finished the first season of The Walking Dead.

Short story long, and getting back to the original point, time just seems to be in short supply to hunker down with too many shows at one time. Kids and life get in the way. But I've been making mental notes of various series and plan to get caught up when I retire next year.

What does a Netflix subscription cost nowadays anyway?

I have been somewhat disappointed with the movie selections they've had in the past, but it sounds like the series they have might be worth picking it back up.

I love the download feature Netflix offers now for mobile devices! I fly a lot and makes the trips go so much better. I used to buy and rent from iTunes.

When I signed up a few weeks ago there were 3 options $7.99 $9.99 and $11.99. So far I enjoy the TV series I've stumbled on and agree their movie selections are not very good. I signed up for the middle plan and have downloaded the app on my phone.

I've watched Longmire and enjoyed it. It's set in Wyoming (but filmed mostly in northern NM) and has some very stunning landscapes. It has Lou Diamond Phillips in it...who I always enjoy...and it gives a fair accounting of life on the reservation. Longmire is gritty and old school. If you like westerns and detective type shows you would probably like this, although it is a modern setting.

I haven't watched Medici but I will probably check it out. I've watched Borgias and The Tudors, which I imagine are similar. Both were good. I consider Breaking Bad, House of Cards, and Stranger Things some of the best I've seen on Netflix. I liked Orange is the New Black for a season or two but grew tired of it.

Some of the series I've watched and enjoyed...

Lie to Me
White Collar
Black List
Leverage

Series that I didn't think I'd enjoy but loved (I'm not into Marvel super hero genres, but these aren't your typical batman/superman stuff. These are very flawed individuals.) ....

Jessica Jones
Luke Cage

I tried to get into X Files but found it hokey and full of pseudoscience. I'm watching West Wing right now. I never watched it first time around and this show has my attention. It's very well written.

I spend most evenings on treadmill and in my garage lifting weights so I watch Netflix while I work out. A few hours a day adds up.

Half of the appeal of The X Files is because it is hokey.

The strange thing is I really like Twilight Zone but the acting was overwrought and over done. There were some episodes that had legitimate science but it had a ton of pseudoscience as well. Yet I give it a pass.

That show never took itself seriously. That's why there is pseudoscience.

Go find this episode, I think it's the best. It's silly as hell. And Alex Trebek is in it!

Longmire Longmire Longmire

Based on the book series written by Huntington's own Craig Johnson. Season 5 leaves a bit to be desired, but 1-4 are just great.

I actually started Santa Clarita Diet with my wife, and found it to be surprisingly hilarious.

Give "Better Call Saul" a try......It's slower than "Breaking Bad" but if you liked Saul, it's a good watch. 3rd Season starts soon......

Just watched the 1st episode. It was nice to see some Breaking Bad characters (Mike and Tuco) but I'm not sure how I feel about it though. Saul provided some levity to a very compelling drama but how does that translate to a show revolved around him. I'll give it a few more episodes to see if it pulls me in.

Stranger Things was one of the most innovative and "fresh" shows I've seen in a long time. Super recommend.

That Super Bowl teaser was such a let down though. Halloween? That's a long time to wait for season two.

Which brings up a point about Netflix. Sometimes I think you're better to wait for the series to be complete before you start if you're a binge watcher. Waiting a year for the second season, for me anyway, causes you to forget some of the subtleties. Watching West Wing right now and I'm a few episodes into season two. I was able to roll through the cliffhanger at the end of season one without missing a beat.

Iron fist was just released. I really enjoyed daredevil and this is a continuation of that marvel universe.

I never got into the batman, superman, superhero stuff that's been big over the last decade. Too much attention to special effects and explosions for me. I watched Kong last night at the theater thinking that Samuel L and John Goodman were enough to carry the movie for me. It was ok but nothing great. If you like a bunch of action/fights between an evolutionary isolated group of oversized apes, lizards, spiders, etc...this is for you. If you're going for the plot and acting...skip it. The setting time is post Vietnam so if you're into 70s music you'll love the soundtrack.

But Marvel's Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are so different than the usual for that genre. I really enjoyed them.

This was true for me concerning the Walking Dead. I never saw the first three seasons in real life, but only on Netflix. I liked Season 2 (still think it is the weakest), but people who watched it from weak to weak really complained about the pacing, etc... Not a problem obviously if you are watching three or four episodes in a row.

Even now I watch Walking Dead by buying the episodes on Amazon Prime for $1.99 on Monday's. The commercial break teasers aren't really meaningful since I don't watch it in real time.

It is very interesting difference in how we consume media.

Anyone do Hulu? I see where they're putting a series together on "The Handmaid's Tale" which I ironically finished the book at 4:30 this morning. (Sigh...my sleep patterns are horrendous right now but I'm getting a lot of reading done in the AM.) If you are a fan of dystopian novels you'll enjoy THT. I loved 1984, Brave New World, The Road, Farenheit 451,etc. Mary Atwell has a strange writing style, but she painted a very scary look of a Theocracy. Worth the read if you like that kind of stuff.

The Killing is a damn good series. Filled with twists that always leave you guessing.

Not trying to be an ass, but i dont think anyone really goes to see King Kong or Godzilla expecting to see much in the way of a plot. Its more about nostalgia and watching big monsters tear sh*t up.

Fuller house

I've watched few episodes. I grew up on the show, and I still appreciate it. Likewise, I still like watching "Brady Bunch", "Different Strokes," "Married . . . with Children," and some of the other classics from decades ago.

Candice Cameron may have been my first celebrity crush as a child, and she has aged well. She is batshit crazy with religion just like her fvcked-up brother, but I'd bang the holy spirit out of her. The actress who played Stephanie Tanner? She was addicted to every drug possible by the time she was 30 and has more divorces than I have Rivals screen names. But the mammaries on that one? She has some of the best udders in Hollywood.

My friend is a Hollywood publicist. During the filming of the first season of "Fuller House," the Stephanie Tanner actress asked for a meeting with my friend. My friend, a straight female, said she could not keep her eyes of of the actress' chesticles. She was mesmerized by the size. After realizing she had been caught numerous times, she finally put a hand above her own eyes to pretend she was shielding light from her face and said "sorry, that light behind your head is blinding me each time I look up."

Fair enough and I agree. It's just that Samuel L and Goodman often turn in performances that are larger than the film. They didn't.

Seriously? Samuel l is only type cast now to drop mutha fvckers and goodman hasn't been in anything worth a damn since the flintstones

the first season of Bloodline is really good. it should have ended after 1 though.

not an "original" but i'm on season 3 of Sherlock right now. very good IMO. each episode is an hour and a half. the pacing is really good.

His scene in Pulp Fiction is one of the reasons that movie is so highly rated. And Dijango Unchained...he was amazing.

And he's absolutely great with Charles Barkley and Spike Lee in those March Madness Cap One commercials. Come on man...you're missing out on greatness.:)
