So ESPN has continued its late August deal of showing “big time” HS football. Had a game last weekend with Bishop Sycamore HS out of Columbus.
One problem. There is no such place. The Ohio government and the Diocese of Columbus have no record of the school and there has never been a bishop named Sycamore in the history of Columbus.
Apparently the school is an unaccredited “on-line” HS and most of the players are un recruited players from all over the country, some thought to be as old as 22, who got together to cash the check ESPN wrote them for playing on TV. The “school” played 2 games in 48 hours, losing to the ESPN/Nike IMG Academy (a boarding school for players with 5 stars and D averages) 58-0.
Apparently the coach now has a bench warrant out for him for “criminal mischief” and is facing lawsuits for bank fraud related to a similar venture “Christians of Faith Academy” and for skipping out on over $100K in hotel bills from that school’s players two years ago.
ESPN, the focus of evil in the sports world, is claiming it hired a “broker” to find IMGA a game after lots of schools declined to play its all 5* team. The “broker” apparently did not do any research. So ESPN says.
