Can't see article but mayor announced a $100 million project for a marina, repair shop and retail shop. Should be nice.

It's all pointless unless they do something with the flood wall and open it up.

Just a question, do you think places like Target and Home Depot are worthless? What they have to offer is located behind a large concrete facade and you can't see it until you enter the store.

The docs better be modern, secure, and can sustain the Ohio when it rises for a 100 million.

Surely you're smarter than this argument. A store front is not near the same as the flood wall.

Pretty sure they wouldn't just "forget" to include that in the design specs.

Haha,

Huntington shows signs of productivity and the first thing your worthless ass can do is complain about it?

When was the last time Huntington put $100 million into anything?

I've been saying this for a long time now, the Riverfront property is solid gold real estate, mainly due to the fact it is unused and has attraction.

Huntington and WV sucks as a whole because there's nothing to offer people...meaning...people have no reason to visit this place.
Until now, this whole idea of development on the Riverfront is going to help attract people to here once more.

I just hope none of the slumlords get ahold of the properties and develop on there...then we're screwed...unless the city does what real cities do, hire foreign hitmen to take out said slumlords.

In either case, this is going to build an attractive area for people. I think it would be great. It's exactly the same idea I have pitched for a while now.

Plan includes retail shopping and eventually condos along riverfront. 6-10 year goal

Huntington(the mayor) can't clean 6 inches of snow. I wouldn't make dinner plans for floodwall bar food.

...and cities who routinely get 10 feet of snow are still buried. I cant blame the mayor on the snow because you simply do not fu.ck with mother nature.

I'm all for this project because anything with a pulse generates interest from everyone. What is on the Riverfront anyway? Its completely unused.

I have always thought the best long term plan for any development north or 3rd avenue would be to gradually ramp up the land from 3rd to the floodwall with backfill. That way the city would be sitting on top of the flood wall looking out across the river instead sitting behind the floodwall. This would allow the city to get completely rid of the flood gates filling in those sections with concrete to make a continuous flood wall. Of course to accomplish this you would have to get rid of those railroad tracks among other things.

Gawd it must be misadable to be so negative all the time. The city is bouncing back and looking to grow in many ways on you guys want to piss in the cornflakes. Wow!

Things Huntington needs to do before getting a marina and more retail:

fix the storm drain issuesalt the damn roads when (and *gasp* MAYBE before) it snowsfind a way to retain college graduates, i.e., add entry level jobsbuild on the art and music scene which has shown substantial growth over the last 7 years
This $100,000,000 plan is going to serve the tiny minority of Huntingtonians who actually have disposable income and boat enthusiasts who will come to the city once a year for a boat race. I'm all for development, but there are some serious cysts on this city's body that need removed before we can talk about buying a new boat and some clothes. Then again, what can you expect from someone who tries to 'pray the drugs away' ..?

It will be much more than a marina for $100 million. Im expecting some sort of transportation from there to Marshall to open it up and make it more accessible.

I also expect us to start trying to attract more of the river boat tourism. We have been missing out for years, but this industry is starting to grow again. I think a good long term plan would be to have river boat cruises starting here in Huntington.

I'm sure this will have the capability to host nice outdoor concerts, as well as other nice events along the river.

I think this is a great thing for Huntington and the Tri-State.
