Some of my neighbors make fun of me because I’m the only one in the neighborhood who doesn’t plop his ass on a big tractor to mow grass. I have many beds and plantings that lend themselves to a gasoline push machine. I also pledged I would never ride as long as I could walk.
This spring, I decided the time had come to look at a small riding mower. Keeping up over an acre of land with a push type mower was becoming overwhelming.
I looked online at several small mowers then went to the closest “big box store.” I asked one of the clerks where they had moved the riding mowers.
He answered, “We don’t have any. Sold out.”
I asked when they would be receiving more.
“Probably late summer,” he said.
When I asked why there was such a problem getting machines, he told me, “The manufacturers are having a hard time hiring people to assemble the mowers. No one wants to work.”
