In fairness to Obama, he was referring to Congress as a whole, which overwhelmingly (97-1 in the Senate, 348-77) tossed his veto on the 9/11 bill. However, a large majority of Democrats voted against him as the numbers indicate.
"If you're perceived as voting against 9/11 families right before an election, not surprisingly, that's a hard vote for people to take. But it would have been the right thing to do ... And it was, you know, basically a political vote." Someone needs to tell Obama Democrats are above this type of behavior on serious issues.
I actually agree with Obama on the spirit of the veto. Mitch McConnell, who should have known better than to let this pass pointed out a problem that's long dogged this administration. They simply don't engage Congress like they should. In a comically self-unaware response, Obama criticized the Senators for voting on legislation without fully reading or understanding what they were voting for.
