I'm not sure what this has to do with you not knowing Oakland that Oakland has been rough for a long time.
And of course there's an exodus. Two things are going on there: some people can't afford to live there (and that's a shame, for sure), and others are cashing in on their real estate, moving somewhere with cheaper real estate and pocketing the difference.
Do some people move because they are seeking some conservative utopia vs a liberal state (that's the narrative RW media pushes)? Sure! But we also see that many of these destination areas are becoming more liberal from in-migration. So I don't think it is what you think it is making people want to move.
I've also read some folks mentioning climate change as a reason for leaving California. Drought, increased wild fires, etc. I believe West Virginia is poised to see an increase in desirability from this and the increase in remote work.

I think many are moving for exactly the reason I think. Communist/Socialist-Democrat policies, causing high taxes, high crime, high homelessness, high amounts of drugs, high illegal immigration and a terrible place to raise children.

I'm sure you can figure out for yourself how demographic shifts and voting may be linked. But I'll throw out some major cities Californians move to, and you tell me how they voted last time: Austin, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Nashville.
