Once, During An 8 Day Stretch

Sad. I stopped watching. It’s so predictable and painful to watch. We are going to start slow, shoot sub 20% from 3, and still shoot 30 of them a game. Throw in some defensive lapses and you have a 7 game losing streak.

As long as we are afraid to recruit in the inner city it is only is going to get worse. Also it would help if we had a coach who can coach. We are now playing like it is the Bo Daniel’s era.

CUSA Home Crowds 1/16
1) Old Dominion (7-9) 4528
2) Marshall (7-10) 4239
3) Western Kentucky (10-7) 4012 (for a rematch of the conference championship game)
4) UAB (15-4) 3456
5) Middle Tennessee (11-6) 3122
10) Charlotte (9-5) 26 (covid restrictions?)

Sunbelt Home Crowds 1/16
6) South Alabama (12-5) 1926
7) Coastal Carolina (9-8) 1267
8)Texas State (11-4) 1163
9) Texas-Arlington (8-9) 1107

Complain about Marshall fans if you want, but if either ODU or Marshall basketball had a pulse, they would draw 6000+

26 in attendance for the Charlotte game?

Also fwiw, Texas-Arlington is leaving the Fun Belt as they are not going to restart their football program.

My comment wasn't about the size of the crowd, but the lack of noise made. Lots of people sitting on their hands. One has to admit it happens frequently.

We certainly need a breath of fresh air on the bench, this has been a forgettable year for the big 3, football, basketball and soccer.

The 8-day stretch narrative is absolute trash. That team was near the top of the league all season long when healthy, and beat a top 25 team on the road.

Our crowd is older for sure. It's more of a reactive crowd even when the team is producing (when I say reactive I mean they aren't going to jump around and scream like students before something good happens or just for the hell of it). Now that the team isn't producing, it is quiet, but even last night, for a few minutes when the team started producing, the smaller older crowd got loud last night.

It would be much louder if the team produced and was winning, but still a reactive crowd. We need to get a student section that is active if we want it loud just for the sake of it being loud and before something good happens. Middle aged and seniors aren't going to just stand, jump and scream pre game and all game, that's just the way it is.

25-11 overall 12-6 in conference.
Fourth Place in CUSA

Six of the wins:
WV Tech
WV Wesleyan
UT Martin
Southern
NC Central
Concord

Out of conference Losses to:
William and Mary
Illinois
Morehead State

Best wins probably were Toledo, Ohio, and Akron.

End result was a good win against Wichita State and an embarrassing loss to WVU In the NCAA Tournament.

Good season or an 8 day stretch. Call it why you want.

And you’re leaving out a road win at MTSU who was in the Top 25 at the time.

what would you call it based on our last 40 years of basketball?

- It was an "eight day stretch". Nothing more. Saying anybody outside the MU bubble thought we were anything but whoever won some one-bid league to be seeded in the teens, just like every other year, is revisionist history.

- The live gate numbers, for CUSA, just show how little resources are spent, and how little interest there is in, basketball in much of CUSA. A conference that it there to be grabbed by the throat and controlled. For the SBC, lets cross that bridge when we come to it. Hopefully, DD will be happily back in Myrtle Beach by then.

- When a fan base figures it out, it gets dark very quickly. This whole deal has been about slogans, and living off an 8 day streak. People are figuring that out. Slogans are no substitute for proper coaching and qualified players.

Well that’s fine and I’m indifferent to DD leaving or staying. I just wish any of our coaches other than DD and Huck could get to NCAA tourney in last 40 years. I also wish any of them besides DD could have or would have had that 8 day run. None did.

Good thing Jon Elmore was on that team huh? If he wasn’t an altogether outcome.

I wasn't being serious. I enjoyed every minute of that run. I was trying to get a rise out of Sammie, who likes to bring up that "8 day run" as much as he can to throw shade on the bball program.

Agreed. Whilst I understand older people aren't going to hop around like Jack LaLanne doing squat thrusts after a case of Red Bull, I was merely referring to the lack of enthusiasm.

Conference USA was loaded that year.
Yeah, sure. We all remember how ESPN and Fox were just all atwitter about the mega programs at North Texas and FIU.

Reality? The CHAMPION of the league was seeded 13th. 13 x 4 is 52. There were 68 teams in the tournament. THAT is what CUSA was that year, and every year before and since. A crappy one-bid league, just barely above the bottom conferences that don't even belong in DI.

That is what CUSA is. A one-bid deal that produces something between a 12 and a 14 seed. Just above the bottom of DI.

And we are looking at the bottom of that league, this year.

Hillbilly Ball!!!!! 304 Boys!!!!!!

Whatever.

Currently from the few games that I have watched we are playing "pick-up ball" and that's no more than everyone running around, shooting whatever and whenever they get the ball ad really not scoring. Basketball is a 5-man team sports and that is not what we are playing. There needs to be a complete change in the playing culture, or it is going to be another losing season.

League champ wins more often than not in that opening round, too, so maybe the committee doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

MTSU should have been in that year. Top 25 when we beat them on their Senior Day.

WKU went to the NIT final four that year.

The league was better than perceived. I know you don’t want to hear that and it doesn’t fit your narrative, but it simply was.

OK. Thanks for that.

MU fans went crazy during the 8 day run over winning ONE GAME. 24 13 seeds have won games, since 13 seeds became at thing in 1985. Fact is 4 more wins and we are even with Morehead State.

No, this is a one-bid league. In a one-bid league, there is one-bid. That is why its called that. Woulda Coulda Shoulda about teams that fell short of getting the one-bid, are pointless in this one bid league.
WKU went to the NIT final four that year.
OK. So that makes them something in the 120s that year. And?
The league was better than perceived.
Yeh, ya think its a conspiracy or what. All these media types, saying CUSA is a one-bid league with that bid somewhere around 13, every year, when we all know its right there with real conferences.

Ya think Cal and K are in on it?
I know you don’t want to hear that and it doesn’t fit your narrative, but it simply was.
No, I really don't like to hear delusion and revisonist history.

You guys can argue about 4 years ago all you want... But the fact is, this year's team is not good. A bad mix of players, no true point guard, lack of depth, no 3-point shooter.

We have one very good player (Kinsey)... A couple of potential good players (Early, OAK) and after that its just a bunch of guys playing YMCA mens league basketball.

while I agree it is mind boggling that we are such a poor shooting team I still think this team has an upside. I think DD deserves at least one more year to rebound. I guess I just see things differently than many of you. i really feel that we are one player away from being a really good team in the future.

I remember where this program was before DD got here. It was on life support. The media "experts" shook their heads and laughed over DD's hire. A few years later, we were in the NCAA tourney for the first time in decades and recorded the first tournament win in MU history. Not too bad for a "High School coach".

I'm not a D'Antoni relative or sycophant - never met any of them. But, I know before and after....the program was better after he got here.

This team is struggling....but I don't believe it's in anyone's interest to give up on these young men; that's just not justified nor logical. I can't explain this terrible losing streak. Hopefully, we'll see improvement and wins. Kinsey's game certainly has picked up greatly the last few games. I'm not seeing this thing as over yet.

ohio - As much as I would love to see that happen, I fear the portal has allowed teams to do just that by adding established players seemingly at will. We will continue to be disadvantaged as long as we don’t use it.

It is not the young players that I have given up hope with it is the coach. It is his job to teach / coach them that this is not playground basketball, it is D1 collage ball and must be played as a team, not 5 individuals out on the court throwing up a shot whenever they feel like it.

The key to the run and gun offense is having guys that can fill it up from 3 point range... Elmore and West were both good outside shooters and thus we had success. We simply do not have those guys on this roster. But rather than adjust to what we do have (slashers and bigs) we keep playing the same style we have always played.

Hey now, plenty on here kept cribbing the concept of, "well gosh darn, if we don't win, at least Dan brings an exciting brand of basketball, unlike other sports. Gosh darn he's also so energetic and pleasant to hear in interviews."

Yeah, I sure enjoy the team being down by 25 at the half and having to crawl back to make it competitive...and it literally comes down to coaching and the brilliant "you should see him walk on water" DD, screws that up on more than one occasion, costing us the game.

Lets continue to schedule teams like UVA and get pulverized to the point they put in their waterboy, while you guys keep saying, "Hey, I trust Dan to get it done...just wait'll the tournament!"

If our only problem was getting rolled by the Virginia's and Indiana's of the world, we would be okay... We are getting rolled by the FAU and North Texas's of the world.

Herrion's team one year got shafted out of the NCAA tournament, probably had the hardest run in the tournament had had a pretty solid RPI if I'm not mistaken.
That was easily one of the most exciting tournaments MU was in.

Getting rolled and "lets do Make a Wish for our Waterboy" are two different things.

DD's teams got absolutely demolished against the P5...some of whom weren't even ranked or particularly good at the time.
