I don't know a whole lot about soccer, just enough to know some of the rules and strategy. But, what I witnessed tonight was incredible and that was a national title at the highest level of college sports. And, by God, Marshall won it. Along the way they knocked off power house schools with unlimited resources and teams with the name. Our boys took it all.

Thank you Herd soccer.

You couldn't have stated it any better. It's easy to minimize the attention given to soccer, but I'm glad you reminded me about the difference in funding between the programs. Given that our soccer program isn't Marshall's bread and butter as is football/basketball, that makes this accomplishment all the more impressive and awesome!

Yes. SIr!

…..is it too old fashioned to hold a parade for our boys down 4th ave this week? They certainly deserve it after that seismic victory!! Get some of the local high school bands, add in the players in something huge rolling down 4th and open so they can celebrate with the thousands that would turn out to say well done!

They were flat out better than Indiana and you could tell from the first minute.
This team has brought a lot of good attention to our school. It has United the small but strong soccer community in the region. I grew up playing in that soccer community and was coached by Marshall coaches and players and this is incredible. I would have not dreamed this in a million years.

Get the governor and the mayor on the phone.

They deserve a parade.

Me as well. I don't know your age but I was going to Bobby Gray's soccer camps and then played for Charleston travel soccer teams (and Clarksburg/Bridgeport when we moved) and we always had more support from Marshall than Morganhole.

This is special for that reason as well.

Consider this. (Wikipedia is your friend) Grab a list of the current NCAA champions. Or a list of the past champions in any sport you care to name. What do you see? "Power 5" conference members and/or schools that charge 5 figures and serve the elite's children.

And, maybe once every 5 or 10 years, something like Marshall. Tiny, underfunded, under appreciated, Marshall.

Baseball is about the only sport that occasionally produces a National Champion that’s not in one of the “P5” conferences. No matter how you slice it, this is still HUGE regardless.

I am not sure who your Molly McGuires are named after but mine are spelled

Molly Maguires, like the real ones

When we started our intramural soccer team at Marshall we wanted to use Maguires but the movie was out and popular so just placed a "c" instead of the "a" to avoid any copywrite issues that may have occurred. Like our current team, we were made up of foreign students from all over the world, and as our friends in TKE, KA, Sig Eps, and SAE used to tease us, foreign students from NY and NJ. Me being one of those.

you must be older than me! IIRC that movie was released around 1976. FTR I grew up in the shadows of the gallows of where they hung Black Jack Kehoe (who I think the state of PA has pardoned) , which isnt very far from the Yuengling brewery!! As kids we went to the jail where they held the Mollies, and saw the shackles they used to chain them to the floor.
Now you read, the Mollies didnt really exist, but the coal companies made them up to have some one to blame. IDK.

just got back from a 5 day bender in Raleigh. You are correct! One of the best damn things I have witnessed. The tailgate was insane, the game crowd awesome, the national title...well that says it all. I'll keep attending college cups as long as the Herd gets in them.
