I really feel like we have a pretty good team right now. Considering all of the injuries etc we are doing great IMO. In spite of our on field success 31-6 the past 2 1/2 seasons we seem to not garner the respect we should. I mean when almost anyone else gets a few wins(see MTSU game) they are given the benefit of the doubt over us. This really makes me go crazy. I mean we had a dry spell for a few years but for all intents and purposes we have returned to previous form. In 19 years of D-1 football so far we have won 6 conference championships ( this year to be determined) we have finished ranked in the Top 25- 4 times. Produced 3 Heisman candidates and have a 9-2 bowl record. So what gives? I am not sure but here is my 2 cents worth.
1. we need to keep winning. Nothing helps your image like a 13-1 season.
2. We need to play as many P5 games as we can. I feel we need to be smart about this. Playing the likes of Ohio State and Georgia may make us feel good but we are better off right now playing Va Tech, Pitt or Purdue. I really like what MH is doing with our OOC. I guess I feel we should always play a P5 in a bowl if we can. Like I said we need to work on our perception. In 19 years we are currently 7-29 in P5 games. I don't mention that to put us down, only to say that despite the record, we have proven we can compete with these guys. I feel the more chances we get the better off we will be in the long run. I understand playing Boise State another G5- that is a great game and I get it that it is hard to get many P5 to schedule us 1-1. Thanks MH for trying.
