Penalties- lack of discipline
Defense- never adjusted at all, they slanted us to death on third downs for conversions
Offense-no rythym at all. O line struggled and is highly overrated.
Only bright spots were Davis and Clark at WR.
Coaching- The FG was chickenshit, shows me they just packed it in

Just another example of a flat MU team who buys into their own hype.

The slant, at our coaches pace, has taken 6 years to adjust to it and we still haven't fixed it.

100 percent agree with everything you said. I also still think that they all went out got super drunk last night.

many of us have been saying slant for years... why is it so hard for them to plan for this and adjust? There were many turnovers coaching still stunk. Why is it when we have a bad day it never ends... 4-6 turnovers??? I just dont get it. Where is the leadership? Chase Litton throwing his helmet on the sideline and blaming receivers when he throws out of bounds is childish.

I'll go with young and soft. Problem is Doc never whips the boys into men.

No he just talks like he does. He just plays hardass with very little success in actually managing the talent and egos, or changing many lives or attitudes.

As a result we lose a disproportionate amount of talent before they graduate. And now we're paying the piper. The cupboard is bare at several positions despite consistently out recruiting almost everyone in the G5.

Was thinking this too. You simply can't continue to cut guys (talent) off your team and expect a good outcome. At some point this boils down to the coaches who recruit the players. If you knowingly recruit kids who have "issues" you better be patient and give these kids a chance to grow. Otherwise....don't recruit them.

It's not only the fact Doc cuts some of the most talented recruits we have off the team because he doesn't like something about them but he will also bench players that can help the team. Pittman for example should be getting more carries yet he sits on the bench most of the game. I just dont agree with many of the things Doc does.

Well get used to it. Doc isn't going anywhere. Imagine if we played in the AAC.

Exactly, Herdon2. Doc, thanks to his buddy, Hammy, is locked into a lucrative, long term contractive (and, Tee Hee, ole Hammy made sure to take care of Number 1, cause he got MU to lock him into one too).

Back to football itself. Let's discuss "line play". Our defensive front four plays basic, straight vanilla style, i.e., no stunts, looping, etc. Result, they seldom beat their offensive counterparts straight on, despite the glowing reports on how we are constantly setting new records in the weight room. So, to compensate, we sort of "cheat" our inside linebackers up into "gaps". Result: Akron QB quickly fakes to rb, straightens up, throws quick dart on slant pattern to wide receiver who takes couple quick steps off the line and then slants into the open area vacated by our inside linebackers who are cheating on the run!!!

Fact, our front four never got any significant pressure on Akron's QB. Question: Aren't our defensive front 4 taught that if "you can't to the QB", get a hand and arm up into his face or into his passing lanes"? Apparently not. Guys, Akron was throwing quick slant passes all day- - -these types of passes are thrown on a line, not a lot of air under them. Doesn't it make sense if you the DL coach that someone would pull over a Ryan Bee, or others and say, "hey, you're a 6'7" D end, if you can't get to him, get into his view and throw up your arms and jump". Did you see any of our D linemen do this? Did you see even one of Akron's passes knocked down at the line of scrimmage? Me Neither!!! Total pathetic and "INEPT" Coaching, IMO!!

Careful, Oldeherd, you are verging on criticizing an actual coach. Not good.

I've never been a fan of Doc for this reason. I know I am in the minority and I accept that.

A lot of "wins" but only one conference championship in this shitty league. Pitiful. Speaks volumes IMO.
I've been saying that for years....try the private board we have a small cult group that defends Doc to no end. So all in all, I don't know why anyone loses their minds on this one, Doc is around .500 against the MAC and rarely makes the title game and has won it once. We are still on schedule for as season that makes most of our fans very happy....so relax a winning record and low end bowl game is in our future.

This too shall pass. I remember how Toledo thumped us about 52-0 several years ago and everyone was running around like Chicken Little. Pruitt pulled that rubber band psychology trick and turned it around.

My hat's off to Terry Bowden! He beat us at our own transfer game and no one was expecting the Zips to be so good.

What pissed me off the most was on our first play from scrimmage, when the receiver didn't stretch for a catchable ball. Then he half-assed jogged back to the huddle and that set the tone for the whole game.

Yes, we'll probably start 1-3, but the ship will be righted by the time the conference schedule rolls around; we may yet win it and the Herd will definitely still go to a bowl.

Let's face it, this is a reluctant rebuilding -- not reloading -- year. What with the bye right off, things haven't been helped by a screwed up schedule structure -- all of our opponents will have an extra game under their belt.

Just chill out and endure it. Next year we'll be HELL!

How many rebuilding/reloading years does one have to accept in 6 seasons?

I really think the loss of Rowe, Tindel, Lang and Howard is the key to our poor secondary performance. That is a lot of talent lost in one off season for that part of our defense. All starters or potential starters. Even with them we got toasted against WKU the same way we did yesterday. Take them away and it's even worse.

Uh, maybe, mualum2, if we saw more of "actual coaching" from those posing as such on the Herd sidelines, there would be less criticism. Not sure about what you've been watching, but seeing year after year under Doc's staff opposing receivers go down field with MU defensive backs running side by side and NEVER turning, locating and making plays on the ball is getting pretty damn old!!! I guess Doc will keep starting that frosh corner back who has been burned badly so far because (1) our vaunted recruiting has not landed anyone better, or (2) players who are/were a lot better have been kicked off the team by Doc!!

This issue with cornerbacks not looking back for the ball is the new trend in college football. I've noticed most teams coach their CB's to use this method to defend.

I don't agree with it at all.
