Put a fork in it. It's done.

I know that your all going to see 'eer' at the end of my name and tell me to f myself but if you follow any of my posts you will see that I am a big Marshall fan.

With that said, this is the kind of nonsense (and yes, Gee's comment is nonsense) you get with the "good for the state" argument. I would guess that he made that comment to be obnoxious. If the game should be played for the good of the state then it needs to be played in the biggest arena so it can generate the most income. That happens to be the Morgantown Coliseum . Its a ridiculous argument that doesn't make any sense from a financial standpoint. The state pockets way more money if WVU plays a home game against Miami of Ohio and Marshall plays a home game against Tennessee State.

I would like to see the series continue. I like it in Charleston because I think it good for Charleston that way. If not then it should be a home and home series. That is not to say that I think it "should" be played, rather I would like it to be played.

At that point we need to drop them from every other sport we play them in. Wipe our hands of them completely.

  1. MU will do fine without this game, thank you: That was the headline on my column of August 29, 2011, of which the link has regrettably dropped. (The mysterious Highbeam.com has it, if you really want to buck up for that service.) With the folks up north playing the role of sore winner, I urged MU athletic officials to sever all ties with WVU and deal with people who treat them better.
The above is From Smock's WVGazette Blog 2 weeks ago.

The arrogance is enough to make anyone sick. I feel bad for Hamrick, he's caught in a tough spot, wanting to keep the series alive yet dealing with eerbilly intelligence. I feel doubly bad for the city of Charleston, who stands to lose significant revenue. I feel bad for native WV kids who would have had a chance to play in this intra state classic. In an era when most are seeing the benefits of embracing diverse ideas west Va. u reminds us why WV is one of only 2 states with negative population growth.

Something has gotta give...

Good riddens and please go away. Your a disgusting group. Just go away.

what Gee actually said was that the game makes no sense at a neutral site without the appropriate sponsorships to give WVU the payday that it demands....

He then said that the game, in order to survive, would need to go to Morgantown for 2-3 seasons straight, and then come to Huntington for a year.... Rinse, Repeat.

They should play it in Charleston, but only once every couple of years to increase the interest in the game. I think the game has gotten stagnant and WVU just doesn't want to do it. Maybe some time off will make people care more and want to show up. I quit going a few years ago because the actual game kinda sucked. It was a 3 hour foul festival.

Gee is a racist egotist. His ethnic slurs while president of Ohio State prompted calls for his resignation.

Now he resides at the Morgantown school where he can do or say anything he wants without worry of retribution. In West Virginia, bad behavior is acceptable as long as you preach to the Morgantown choir.

It always irks me when a state agency cites economics as a reason it does or doesn't do something. Personally, I'd love to read WVU's financials just to see how much they spend annually on back-lit flying WV obelisks alone.

This always makes me laugh . It is Marshall that is begging for gamed
nobody wants to play you guys. Please give us a source where we are begging for this game. For the record since you guys are so high and mighty why do you continue to stick your nose in over here?

The issue, it seems, is WVU doesn’t want to play Marshall. And it doesn’t have to, though it should. West Virginia-Marshall is a tastier dish than WVU-Northern Kentucky, WVU-Loyola or WVU-Radford.

“We’ve tried to get a date and cannot get one from them,” Marshall athletics director Mike Hamrick told MetroNews on Thursday. “All indications I’m getting is they do not want to play. We do. I just don’t understand why we wouldn’t play

funny, I NEVER have a need to visit the wvu boards. Why is that? I don't care. Why do these clowns come on our board then?

Same here. I couldn't even tell you where their boards are.

as for the game it should be played and put "college" back into college basketball and have the games on campus. If not then move on to other teams.

This situation does not seem an different than silly decisions made in the state of WV.

Thats BS. So tell me how WVU would gain more revenue playing Western Carolina in Charleston but not Marshall? Less fans, paying a team to come and play = less revenue. WVU -Marshall play to a packed house and split the revenue.

I say we should go our separate ways and be done with each other forever.

Unfortunately this is exactly how the football series ended. WVU is at the peak of it's competitiveness nationally and uses the stance that they can't play Marshall because it is a lose-lose, doesn't make sense economically, game needs to only be played in Morgantown, etc. They know full well that no one at MU will agree to only play the game up there, so therefore it makes it look like they gave us an option to continue the series, and we refused.

While they can and should enjoy their time in and around the top 10, just like those years in football, they don't tend to last. The cries to end these series only come up when they are at the top of the world, and they are using that again to kill the game. Obviously I'm biased because I like this game and think it should be played, it's just the lack of respect that they show Marshall that bothers me. They will play 5 other lower division schools and not make as much money, but can't play us in front of 10,000+ fans in Charleston?

If I tell you, would you even believe or accept it anyways?

WCU gets a check for the game......... between $80-100k......... the average attendance for a WVU game in Charleston since Huggins arrived - 12,343. This is for all games NOT including the Classic.

So, at 12,343 attendees, and a conservative average ticket cost of 25.00 per ticket.............$308,575.00...... minus a check of 100k........... $208,575.00 dollars for WVU.............. add in concessions, merchandise, and media rights for the game......... $250,000.00 probably.

Whereras........... WVU's cut on the Classic = $150-175k

Also, in years when WVU showed up to Charleston as a ranked team, the average attendance is a sellout, regardless of who the opponent is.

But, like I said................ it's not like MU posters would accept that reasoning anyways.

Take heart. As in football look at all those decades "this" would have been "the year" Marshall would have won!

WVU has only finished the season ranked 5 times in the last 20 years so that's nowhere near the majority of the time. The game is nearly sold out when they play Marshall every year, although the change in date to December has hurt that number a little bit, but still has a good draw.

Economics aside, if you don't think that game is more interesting than most of the others you play in Charleston then you are kidding yourself. It's one game in December out of a 30 game season and it's absurd that they can't figure it out. WVU wants nothing to do with Marshall and it's just that much more obvious now. I just don't get it. It should be a fun event for fans and players from the state of WV and ego is getting in the way of that.

Kudos for the math work. I'll accept that. But , there is no way 12K will show up for WCU. It would be more like the 8K and change that showed up to watch you guys play JMU earlier this year. But, appreciate the info. I htink we all agree that neither school should have anything to do with the other.

With it being the only chance Charlestonians get to see WVU play, the WCU game will than likely be close to sell-out range....

MU played JMU at home ~4500 fans show up , WVU played JMU at Charleston before 8200 fans . WVU has 80 % of attendance in MU -WVU game , but MU biggest pay day for the season for tickets that WVU supporters buy up. I agree with your
shouldn't have anything to do with each other.

Your buckeye told you how to think.

Marshall doesn't need west Va. u's game.

Why do you come here, the point is moot.

Go away. Go away. Go away. No reason to come here.

We don't want anymore of west Va u in any way.

what do we have to do to keep these folks away? I mean I care as much about them as I do western carolina or VMI. I don't care.

Exactly. I don't care.

We have a hoops team that may make the NCAAs with a ton of in state talent.

2 P5 ACC teams on our football sked , one ranked in the Top 16 .

Yet their self promoting psychotic self perception that we need them persists.

Go away assholes. Just go away.
