QB coach needed

I don't want to see anyone go, but we could probably get away with having one Defensive Line Coach and not having separate Defensive End and Defensive Tackle coaches.

I think with the way Heater designs the defense, 2 Dline coaches is needed

Ridiculed? For naming Spurrier, the man who invented the fun and gun, who said he wants to stay in football in some capacity? He's a Florida/Duke guy Holliday is a Florida/NCState guy. We have Heater an older guy who has worked out very well. Set the boundaries with Spurrier and tell him your not the show anymore, your the teacher.

Chad, why would Chad want to spend that kind of time when he's fiscally secure? Because he IS fiscally secure and he loves Marshall. What if Chad just spent time in the spring and summer practices and came up for Saturday sessions in the winter in the IAF. That's what 3 months cumulatively?

To me it's not the smarts either Birdsong or Litton needs, it's some mechanics work. We HAD this position before Petersen left, to add it back is no big deal.

Again we are QBU, right? Then you back that up with process input. If I'm a young recruit and I see that Marshall has invested in a true QB coach, and I'm a QB, I feel more secure with my decision to attend.

Ridicule away amigo!

Go Herd!

Oh and one last parting shot, if there's one thing I remember about Michael Payton it was that form, and it was freaking Heisman like, perfect beautifully balanced and he was a gamer, and he wears #14!

Chase throws off his back foot, he has to be losing some velocity and that will be one hard habit to break. It's worth the investment to get a true QB coach.

Why not there Green, Lets dig up Bill Walsh or Vince Lombardi to be our QB coach.

Michael Payton???? I don't know if this guy is serious

I don't think Byron would be interested but while I agree he had an unusual and long delivery, the thing that made him great was the ability to read. I would be remiss in saying that Chase's ability to have a good progression or reads at real game time has improved dramatically this season.

Spurrier never seriously came close to developing a QB at South Carolina that came close to even the backups he had at Florida as in Kresser who as we all know transferred to Marshall.

Add to that Huntington is too far from Augusta National and Guyan is not Augusta National.

i'm not sure chase needs miracles.

again, why would a multimillionare with a lot of solid investments and fiscally stable for the rest of his life want to commit to work 60-80+ hours per week minimum, traveling significantly a large portion of the year, all for less than $100,000/year?

Obviously herdit44 so he could be constantly second guessed on every play by a cyberspace full of "experts" like most (all?) of us !!!:) Masochist anyone?

Chad has said on several different occasions when asked about if he'd ever like to coach he said he would not seriously entertain it until his kids have graduated and then he would want to coach at the high school level where he can give young men the tools necessary to succeed in college and in life.

That being said Chad does do consulting work with QBs in the NFL like with the Jets and Geno and he is here a lot and Cato was able to pick his brain and watch film with Chad. Cato also said he was able to call Chad whenever he needed something.

Chad is not taking a full time postion. He has been adamant if being with his family over the next several years and being a college coach would be just like playing again if not worse because of recruiting.

Not happening.

Thanks for that info, Bleeds ... And he seems to be a super character of a person. Lucky to have him in The Big Green Truck.

Good post Bleeds. Unless I have been missing something with Chad, he really enjoys being with the kids and coaching the kids. I am fortunate to coach in the same basketball league as he is and I have seen him really into it. I see him at all the baseball games with his 3 kids in different leagues and is very involved. He also coaches in many football leagues here in Lexington. I just can't see him giving all of this up. He is a huge resource in Lexington in the sports community. I am not sure how he keeps it up himself with all that he is involved with here.

Chad has a great life right now and is a tremendous family man. It always a pleasure seeing him out in Lexington at youth sports and watching his involvement whether coaching or supporting the teams and players. Always there with a positive word.

My point with Leggs is that he can't possible doing both coaching up and game planning for the next week equally well. We all know QB make and break you. We found our next man but can we make him be the most successful herd even at the next level?

Think we are also a little vanilla and worry about how we can handle it when we do go up against a good team . Guess we will see with WKU . Still think we need some upgrades in AC and every head coach will admit keeping good assistant and getting some new guys in is key to their success. Doc is a great recruiter . "Chase can be great, Doc is my huckleberry and In Mike Hammick we trust." Goherd

Um bleeds green how MANY true freshman has marshall had at QB ? RaKeem Chad and the YTH QB ?

I agree Litton is improving each game, getting more aware , but what if he had a mechanics mentor? He talks to Legg intra game and believe it or not Legg is a smart man. He was accepted to med school.

Herditlall is right, Legg can't do both. A true QB coach would help.

you do realize in college all offensive coordinators coach another position. you're limited to 9 full-time staff, including your head coach. 2000-01, byron's big development years, zaunbrecher was our oc and qb coach.

Herdit44 pointing to Byron whose long delivery is the reason why he couldn't last in the nfl is not making your point. I always thought Cato and chase have intangibles but Cato was scrappy and extended plays, which Cato had since day one and playing with his childhood friend and teammate . Again not seeing how legg is coaching him up. The knock on Doc , no pun intended, was he isn't an xo guy. So now other AC have to pick up more slack . Just my opinion Doc has to manage everything but I hope we can develope chase more because 170 yards isn't going to cut it .

170 yards isn't gonna cut what? Lol 70% passing and three touchdowns? A total beat down of the other team?

Some of you all need Jesus.

yeah, byron's mechanics were so bad he played he only earned around $25m in his career for his qb play.

Byron's mechanics > herdit44's mechanics = $25m to Byron

Why is everything a battle with you?

The OP asked a legit question regarding a QB Coach. Most programs have them as they help correct mechanics to not only maximize a players output for college, but this also helps them with being more attractive for NFL scouts, potentially helping them get to the next level.

The part where the OP mentioned candidates for the position may just be trolling, I don't know, but the basis of the post is fine.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that Legg might just be the QB Coach?;)

Love how herd fever and others blast folks for pointing out our horrible play calling. However the next day posts how we need to let Leggs go. It's ok just glad your catching up to the rest of us....Some of us our slower than others

Wouldn't have to. I'm sure Marshall would agree to let him work less, I'm sure he'd be willing to do it for free too. Hell, just come in and work with him during the off season. Couldn't hurt, and I doubt it'd take too much of Chad's time. I mean, damn, he's here constantly anyway for fundraising and at games.

I don't like Legg as the QB coach either. Sure, he can teach the reads and how to lead his offense but when you watch them really work the QBs in practice it is different. I think Tony is much better at developing QBs. I do think Legg is a fantastic OL coach.

how much is less? how much free time do you think chad has to spend in huntington for free? he has several kids, all involved in sports (which he's coaching), businesses in tennessee, etc.

Well herdit44 wrote "again, why would a multimillionare with a lot of solid investments and fiscally stable for the rest of his life want to commit to work 60-80+ hours per week minimum, traveling significantly a large portion of the year, all for less than $100,000/year?" Uh how about asking our basketball coach that same question!

Well its looking like we need a new basketball coach and our basketball coach wasn't being paid millions. Maybe his brother but not Dan
