When we lined up for a field goal (that we ultimately missed)and the App player lined up over our center, the ref moved him. Was that what he was supposed to do or should he have let the play run and throw a flag?

This may not be the popular answer, but speaking from a coaches' perspective, I like officials who help players with the little things. Telling a DL that he was just barely in the neutral zone on that last play or an OT that he was lined up in the backfield; that, to me, is good officiating. Now, if the player does it again, then you have to flag him. So, I'm not sure if the official was "supposed to" do what he did in the App St game, but I'm good with it.

I don't believe you are allowed to hit the center on that play, so he probably just moved him to avoid a penalty. Kind of like helping them, but the same can happen as a receiver can check if he is over the line. The referee may have told him that if he hit him it would be a penalty, so the player may have then just moved?

It’s not a penalty to line up over the center. If that were the case, it would be quite easy to run a fake right up the middle.

It is a penalty to hit the center in a kicking formation with some parameters.
