Realignment article

Has Charlotte "improved". Maybe, but not that much. I believe that our decline has been steeper than their improvement. We just passed them on the way down and they caught us. I know this is tough for us all to swallow, but had Charlotte not beaten us they would not have went to a bowl game. Thus having another losing season.

Even if you're right...all this board would have done was complain MU beat a team with a losing record.

There's nothing good about anything and the board has been perpetual misery.

MU loses to Charlotte, fans say MU is awful because they lost to a terrible Charlotte team...even if Charlotte managed to beat other teams, that is forgotten by people on here.

MU beats Charlotte, Charlotte doesn't go bowling...it just adds another team to say Doc, Hamrick, Gilbert, Green, and a dozen others need to be fired, are mediocre, and the team is woe is me sky is falling terrible. Even if it negates entirely what a loss would do, but we all know people only choose what they want to see.

MU has the impossible task of being mediocre (with Doc, Green, Hamrick, etc) but is also supposed to win every single game it plays in.

The fans complain that CUSA is awful and needs to be better. Because of that, MU should win every conference game, no trouble.
MU is horribly coached, has terrible players, and simply doesn't have what it takes, etc according to here.

But MU fans get upset when MU loses. So, when MU wins, the conference is weak. When MU loses, the team is mediocre.

Simply put, MU cannot exist in two places at once, thus an impossible scenario/situation it is put into on a weekly basis.

It should have helped. The problem is you have to bring those recruits here. I just don't feel the last five years that these coaches are going after the same caliber player that we went after prior 2015. Even the NQs are kids we could land regularly. They used to be players like Yulee, Butler, Jean-Louis, McManus, and the higher end guys we weren't getting straight up. Now we're offering NQ spots to guys we're battling Elon for.

We needed the IAF because we had been losing practice time to weather. Also it did appeal to players that we were recruiting against bigger schools for. Like I said though we don't seem to go after those guys.

I just don't think the staff members hired since 2015 either have the belief that Marshall can actually get those players or they themselves don't think they could win a recruiting battle. It's also entirely possible these latest coaches are just horrible judges of talent.

I don't disagree, we aren't targeting the same level of recruits that we were from 2014 and back. If I understand it correctly, doc gives the final ok to recruit a kid that has been brought to him by on of the assistants. This I don't get, he recruited like he was on fire to form the cato team, and since then the level of recruits we go after is always one or two notches below. Who knows why, as a life long coach, I can't accept that Doc just packed it in after he got his one championship.

Great explanation. The sick world view of the anti-Doc minority. Childish super-fandom, turned inward and rotten. MU is supposed to win, because it is supposed to. The viewpoint of a 10 year old. Childish. But, then the worse part. The teams MU plays should be ashamed to exist. They don't matter. Beating them is nothing.

Thus rather than at least the simplistic and childish "we are great" view of the typical little kid (or WVU fan), we get a childish view where NOTHING that ANY coach or player is EVER going to do is acceptable.

Childish super-fandom, turned inward and rotten.

Sad.

Give me this as a conference

Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, UAB, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama, Arkansas State, North Texas, Troy, Rice

Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, Marshall, Florida International, Middle Tennessee, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, ODU

Play all 8 of your division mates and play the other side in the Conference Championship.

You mean play all 7.............if 8 conference games is the mandate, that still leaves one crossover game to be played

Louisiana-Monroe - Southland

UTSA, Texas State, UTEP, New Mexico State - Mountain West

Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Liberty need to go back to the FCS

Seider played a big role. Doc has the final approval for sure, but he isn't the guy beating the bushes so to speak.

Seider is well known in Florida because he was from there and we all know about Doc's reputation in FL recruiting. Those two combined were awesome.

After Hartley kept it up, but his guys never lasted. After him you could see the change. We just weren't going hard after the AJ Leggetts anymore.

Recruiting is starting to look a lot more like the Snyder years. A couple nice players, but overall nothing to get excited about.

Im not impressed with Price. He recruits the Panhandle. I don't think he knows how to evaluate kids.

people lose the edge over time and as I said change in college football is healthy every 6 to 9 years. Only really good coaches can last longer then 10 years in a job. College football is about excitement and after a period of time change is good for everyone. Including the coach.

I do think CUSA East and Sunbelt east need to merge, I mean the goal here is to tighten things up, correct? If it is done in that fashion, you go to north south divisions. That would give us one more bus trip in conference (App) on top of WKU, MT, UNCC. I am assuming we also bus to Norfolk? Anything else is a plane trip. North: Marshall, ODU (they are gonna bitch no matter where you put em), MT, WKU, UNCC, App South: Georgia Southern, Georgia State, CCU, FAU, FIU, Troy. I think that would work best, if not Troy, then UAB. 3 alabama programs almost guarantees one needs to go east. Both divisions benefit from cost saving bus trips, there are good existing and potential rivalries in both. The east west thing just doesn't work for easy travel and cherry picking programs just isn't going to happen, there is no leverage from either conference to do that. It would be nice to pick all the good performers, ok fanbases etc, but that is not how this will shake out, there is no money involved on the positive end of things to make that happen.

Both football and basketball fly to Norfolk. Basketball then buses on to Charlotte or vice versa. If the series starts in Charlotte then they fly to Charlotte and reverse the process. The only conference bus trip for either program is WKU. In talking to Neal Skaggs he expects that to change in the coming year

another thing to keep in mind since Doc has taken this job is schools like Georgia State, Appy State, Charlotte, and ODU have all started playing D1 football. This is more competition for recruiting. Virginia has always been strong recruiting grounds for Marshall. This means you have to change the way you do things and do more player development.

What change are you referring to. Do we also fly to Nashville?

Beef - this past b-ball season we flew into an airport about 1/2 way between Murfreesboro and Bham. Bused dn, up & back to airport
Ok so if we are still flying around like crazy, then why does geography matter in any realignment? I never woulda thought we flew to Charlotte, MT. Norfolk I could see somewhat. Ruinned my whole argument about tightening things up lol

Nah.
Snyder got NFL talent and couldn't manage to coach them to a winning record while he was here.

And it looks like the G5 schools, led by the money bleeding THE AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!! are developing a regional concept in minor sports. Simply play no conference games at all, just play the regional schools around your area, and have the conference championship just be a tournament at the end of the year.

https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2020/05/25/Colleges/Travel.aspx

Really, this could work for not just the G5 but the P5, I-AA and non-football DI as well. Just play the schools you can bus to, regardless of conference, and have a tournament at the end.

Schools are hiding their long time financial woes on this virus.

I am still lost on this whole excuse of budgets being ravished because of this virus.
