Have postponed their games with Marshall 10/3 and UAB 10/10 according to Brett Mcmurphy.

WTF. What are we down to 7 games now. Hell we could win out, and not get a sniff of an access bowl just on the quantity alone.

Now a source at Rice is saying it is not postponed as of yet...who knows what'll happen.

IF they do postpone, is it realistic to find a non-conference opponent? Even a CUSA West opponent with an open date?

iMO, an 8 game season is not acceptable when you consider that most all of the other CUSA teams have 10 to 12 games scheduled currently. Rice and MU had 9 going into this week.

Hamrick needs to be doing his job and burning up the phones. Even if he has to schedule another FCS opponent - - even the ACC's Virginia just booked an FCS foe from Texas, Abilene Christian, for a game. BYU, Temple and some other FBS schools have common open dates with MU. Although BYU was putting an EKU type beat down on Navy early in the 2nd Quarter when I last looked.

Im as hard on MH as anyone, but this is absurd... It's not his fault that Rice cancelled a game less than a month out. It's also not his fault that the P5 leagues are playing 10-game conference only schedules (thus no non-conference openings)... And as evidenced by the fact that he got EKU to take a road game on basically three weeks notice, I am certain he is working the phones.

Call UTEP and see if they want to come for a visit (they are awful and will probably politely decline)... Then find an FCS team that wants to make a check.

As far as the access bowl, it doesn't matter if MU plays 8 games or 10 games with two FCS teams, the result is the same. Even undefeated, MU doesn't finish ahead of whoever wins the American (assuming they have 1 loss or less).

Only CUSA West opponent with an open date on 10/3 is UTEP.
Sean - to me, that would work the best. I haven't looked around their schedule to see if they have away game before or after 10/03, but let's get in another conference game, which keeps us even with our mates in terms of # of conference games played. I am amazed we have a possible w/in conference tbh....

It’s even hard to find an FCS opponent right now. https://www.google.com/amp/s/athlon...ootball-ranking-schools-playing-fall-2020?amp

Wow...its posts like this that irritate me.
Hamrick has done a great job with the scheduling, given who MU is and the circumstances.
He has also shown people like you, that he can schedule at the last minute, so I don't doubt he has been trying to fill the spot.
If he doesn't, I won't hold it against him at all...

After watching BYU sink every ship in the Navy, Doc probably doesn’t want any part of The Fighting Mormons.

UTEP is rated #129 out of 130...And that would pad Doc’s Conference stays.
And, if memory serves me, didn’t they put an embarrassing smackdown on us in our visit to El Paso?

We owe them big time!

Both times we went there. We did hold serve here and we 2 -0
Although bothvames there were duds, I've enjoyed both of my football and both basketball trips out there. It's a fun city

Well, keep your lips firmly planted to Hamrick's posterior, GHMY!!

Don't you find it a little odd that most CUSA schools, pandemic or not, have managed to have anywhere from 10 to 12 games scheduled? Yes, the ECU postponement was a recent situation, and MH deserves credit for getting the EKU game. But its been several weeks now that everyone knew both the Pitt and Boise games were kaput!

Like I said UVA just got a game with a FCS opponent from Texas, although that state has had some hotspots with the Virus. That's been Rice's main problem with trying to get in sufficient practices, much less play actual games, there in Houston.

No one in reality has any delusions about the Herd vying for an "Access" bowl slot.

Who knows for sure? Maybe Mike H. is secretly pulling for the rest of the season to be cancelled. Then he can justify another lucrative $$$ contract extension for Doc on our undefeated season!

olde - putting aside that image! I think Mike has more than built up some cache’ when it comes to future football scheduling! Let’s trust that he will figure out the best possible match-ups to be had once we get the “official” word from Rice. I love the idea of a home & home with BYU!! How are we ever going to climb back up into the upper quadrant of the G5’s if we don’t play the top teams? We never will unless these kinds of games get played.
&....Do even the most cynical amongst us think that, in the midst of this ClusterF*ck of a season, ESPN wouldn’t be interested in buying this contest??

"Oh wow, my unrealistic expectations of a human being are causing me to lose grips on my mental health! Hoo hoo hee hee! Its all Hamrick hoping to keep Doc!! Oh no!!!!!"

Trying to sift through this useless drivel of a post and I am struggling to find anything worth responding to but...

Hamrick doesn't have the luxury of existing in a state with plenty of D1 schools to choose from and where the only other one who does, pretends you don't exist. The ACC mandated a complete ACC schedule with a single OOC game, so Pitt was gone and Boise's conference completely opted out of playing entirely. You also have EKU, by the luck of going independent for the season, had an opening.

Plenty of the schedules have 2 FCS teams on them, so, do you want another FCS school? If so, don't complain if the schedule looks easy. MTSU scheduled Troy twice 1:1 in the season. North Texas got 3 schools in state. The best looking schedule goes to UAB, but thats really one of the only teams that has a complete looking schedule.

Rice is on life support because they can't nut up and either play and risk it or be smart and just cancel their season because if they aren't practicing then their guys are gonna get hurt.

Being whiny and irrational because you can't understand science and the current scope of sports as we know it, doesn't mean anyone who thinks the current AD's good scheduling under the insane unpredictability is wrong.

I give him credit, this crap isn't easy to do.

Apparently the Baylor and La Tech game is being cancelled because 38 players at Tech tested positive for Covid.

Tennessee's opener is also in danger on the 26th... Currently 40 players out and a total of 2,000 students on the UT campus are in quarantine due to either positive tests or confirmed exposures. There is even talk of sending students home for the semester. Knoxville right now is a cluster-****

WVU just sent students home for a few weeks. Totally irresponsible on their end. They require the students to be tested before coming to campus, then just decide to basically close the campus and send everyone back into their communities without a test. No one has any clue how to handle this mess.

That is accurate – every university being in it for themselves, every state being in it for themselves, etc, is causing a huge mess... Knoxville, Morgantown, Tempe, Ruston, the list is growing every week of college towns dealing with spikes in case numbers.

Throw in that a DT at California University of PA just died of COVID (his dad played for the Steelers) and the storm is just beginning... The next 2-3 weeks are going to be pivotal in determining whether the college football season is completed at all.

Earnest ? - I realize bigger student bodies are going to produce higher #’s of positive cases. But football teams, the coaching and support staffs are going to be about the same number for all schools that play. Now, to the ? - what are we doing right that other schools are screwing up?

As the season progresses, Hamrick has to be ready and proactive to try and fill additional gaps in our schedule. Don't make excuses GHMY, if he doesn't. Yes, if necessary, another FCS opponent, perhaps from the OVC, may have to be scheduled. The HERD team with a lot of young players needs game experience, especially with some inexperienced players, e.g., QB, at key positions. What about possible opponents from the Sun Belt or American Conferences who have or develop schedule openings?

Will grant this: Athletics Directors like Mike Hamrick certainly could use some help in this issue from our conference "leadership". Czar Judy and her cronies in Frisco need to step up pretty soon and move some league games around to fill in some gaps. MU looks like it is going to possibly be down 2 league games soon, Rice and LA Tech, which may mean that after Appy, we could have one game in FOUR weeks, WKU. NOT good, and certainly not acceptable.

A guy who had played for CU of PA, passed away. The family has no confirmation it was Covid, and the school cancelled the season and had held no practices. Football was completely an unrelated detail about there young man.

Calm down before you shoot in your pants.

Given the inherent lack of support you have gotten from your useless posts, I'll take you about as seriously as that idiot brad smith who writes for wvu.

GHMY - Ever hear of a movie titled “The Jerk”?
You would be perfect for the lead. Get over yourself! Who appointed you the arbiter of “good” posts and “bad” posts? You (of all people!!) enjoy coming on here and polluting threads with your run-on rants....allow the rest of us to do the same and we will get along. Otherwise? Be prepared for incoming!!

Yeah, some just can't help themselves. The childish rants get old quick.

Yes, because being rational and realizing this isn't some magical method of "picking up the phone" on an already limited set of marketing during an even more limited group of available teams to choose from, is somehow childish.
But then again, its the old people being this way, unable to know old people and babies are basically the same.

Careful GHMY - in these crazy times, can’t go around hatin’ on 2/3 of the U.S. population!
