Marshall's Thundering Herd is still in the hunt for a Conference USA men's basketball tournament bye, but has work to do.

With four games left to play in the regular season Marshall (15-12) is in a three-way tie for fifth place with Rice and UAB, all with 8-6 conference records.

Twelve teams from the 14-team league make the March 8-11 tournament at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala., and the top four from the regular season standings receive byes into the quarterfinals.

11-7 with a loss to ODU probably puts us at the 5 seed. UTEP at a minimum will go 3-1 and finish 12-6, as would ODU. Thursday's game in Norfolk is huge.
