Beats Koepka out for the award. I like Rory, but I’m not sure this was a good pick. Koepka won the PGA, was runner up in the US Open and Masters, and was 4th in the British Open. He’s also the current #1 ranked player in the world. Rory’s best major finish was tied for 8th.

Yeah this was a mild upset but don’t discount Rory’s likeability having an influence on the voting.

McIlroy racked up a tour-best 14 top-10s in 19 events, highlighted by wins at the RBC Canadian Open, Tour Championship and the tour's flagship event, the Players Championship. McIlroy also won the Byron Nelson Award for adjusted scoring average (69.057) for the third time in his career, and his 2.551 strokes gained were the best non-Tiger Woods figure in the statistic's history. This is McIlroy's third Player of the Year award, and his first since 2014.

Throw in the Fed Ex cup, I am not sure Brooks was a clear should be winner. Could have went either way.

"Look, Brooks has had an incredible year," McIlroy said. "This speaks volumes to what PGA Tour players think is important. I've harped on this: Players think more than just four weeks are important."

You guys are the only ones who could care less. Until their are blacks over running the golf courses I like kapernick will protest by. Well anything but not saluting the flag is one way I won't protest. Why do that to veterans. Kapernick done more with his afro and protest to resurrect the use of the n word than when those black guys help up their fists during the medal ceremony in 68.

Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

Says the guy who was in contention in zero majors this year. I guarantee he would trade his FedEx for Brooks’ PGA.

Given the discussion, your response is...uh...interesting. Not sure how you arrived at it.

Just talking without much thought GK. I appreciate golf. I appreciate how Tiger brought excitement to golf. Also saw a man's moral's bring down his game. Saw that same man climb all the way back. But just for a short weekend..lol

True, remember the players vote on this award. So, their peers voted on it. Might be who they like more. I would have voted for Brooks more than likely.

Heard a good hypothesis on the PGA Tour radio this morning. The tour and the players are trying to bring more emphasis on its two big tournaments(outside of the majors) and the players/tour are trying to get them to equal majors or trying to bring more notoriety to them. The Players Championship and Tour Championship.

The tour doesn't run the majors. Masters, British, US Open, or PGA Championship(which is run by the PGA, not the PGA Tour). They also said there is lockerroom talk among players that many of the tour players now equate pesonally winning those two right near majors. Why? Money, they rank them that way among peers, strength of field, etc.

History judges by majors. The players take in more than that. For example, who had a better career. Matt Kuchar or Orville Moody. Would you rather be Rich Beem or Rickie Fowler? Greg Norman only won 2 majors, but has 88 world wide wins and outside of Tiger Woods has the longest streak of being #1 in the world over a period of time. Where would you rank him? Behind Koepka?

None of that is relevant to who the POY is in 2019. That should be Koepka.

Koepka brought home almost $2 million more than Rory.
