Coming out of Blacksburg, Va regarding Coach Huff being their next coach. Any of you know what Huffs buyout here is?

$2.2 million buyout? Just guessing here regarding that if in fact it is $2.2 million I’m not sure but would imagine that Va Tech could afford that.

By comparison, Fuente's buyout is $8.75 million.

So they'd spend almost $10 million to fire Fuente, buyout Huff, and then pay him a salary.

I believe it to some degree. Every since Coach Beamer left the program. There has been a huge disconnect with getting “dude’s” from the Tidewater. That’s where Yulee (RIP) is from. Huff played at Hampton. Who could potentially come in and recruit that particular area strong? That’s right, Chuck Huff. Pay me my money.

He needs to put the rumors to bed, more with the team than anything else. Distraction in the prep for WKU. Remember our bowl with UL when it was found out by them that John L was leaving right before the game; they totally fell apart.

I hear you, but Coaches have done this in the past and still left. They're careful with their words, not making definitive statements, in case they end up landing a job.

The likelihood of him getting hired is Slim to none and Slim just left town. But, in the unlikely event that he were offered, anyone who thinks he will turn it down out of loyalty to us needs their head checked.

My contact said he was not on a short list but I guess if enough people turn them down then maybe. I think the AD has to make the right hire this time and Huff is still really young for that job. The bigger question to me does Rich Rod become a candidate?

DickRod will be the next coach at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute And State University.

All of this Huff talk is nonsense. Currently 7-4 against a bottom feeder schedule, with major sideline mistakes leading to comeback losses to mediocre teams and an embarrassing loss to a Bottom 20 team.

VPI is way too smart to make that kind of mistake.

You got that right. No one wanted to hire Doc the last 10 years for exactly the same reason. Not sure why folks think that makes Huff a hot prospect.

I think next week they'll hire someone, waiting too long puts you in a bidding war.

He says the right things. He has MU in position to win the division in the first year. He can coach a team with decent talent. He played at Hampton. He's been in top programs. I'd say his age is both a good and bad thing. Young enough to put energy into the program, not old enough to be confident he can consistently win.

I blame the media.

At a school like this, there is going to be constant chatter about either firing the coach or him moving up to the next level. MU has had a vacation from that, leaving out Doc’s brief look at by Pitt, for two coaches. That has left MU fans out of the loop.

So now VPI comes open. So we get this ho-ha about CH being somehow in the mix for this. Makes us feel important and relevant.

VPI, is very close to the top level. Top level programs do not look at first year coaches who are 6-4 versus I-A teams, having beaten NOBODY who will finish the regular season with a winning record.

I very much doubt anybody in Blacksburg really knows who CH even is.

Do yourselves a favor and let it rest until 23 or 24. At which time, perhaps, CH will have a win versus a winning I-A team on his resume.

So he didn’t screw up anything from a team that went to the conf champ game last year.
I think he will turn out to be a decent hire for us down the road but this year isn’t exactly something for him to brag about. We weren’t bottom feeders and now we are suddenly world beaters

If he is seriously a candidate for the VT job, and Im skeptical about their level of interest, his candidacy will have pretty much nothing to do with what he has done this season.

VT fans want someone who can recruit, they want someone who is good with the media/boosters/etc, they want someone who is not a retread thats been dropped by another program, they want someone to build confidence in a program that doesn't have much right now... Huff had all those things before this season. If we win Saturday and make the CUSA title game, that's just a cherry on top of his resume. VT would not be hiring Huff because of one 8-4 season in a G5 league.

Also, as long as we have a coach under the age of 60 and continue to have winning records these kinds of rumors are going to float around... That's the life of a good G5 program.

You must've missed the overuse and incorrect use of the term "mediocre" which this board used for Doc since 2015.
Also, considering their belief that Doc had "completely lost the team" and somehow theg are 7-4, makes me think Huff could walk on water.

The major difference being we tanked after Rice last year; while this year, we seem to be improving in certain areas.

In his tenure, Doc had 3 bad seasons,
1 atrocious season, 3 good seasons and 4 average seasons. He averaged 7 wins a year. Consistent? Yes. But that’s about it. I appreciated his tenure:

I do not know who Tech will hire. I do know this. The search committee could care less what herdnation thinks about the hire. If Coach Huff is the guy, I will be curious to see who the search committee contacted on Herdnation to get input.

Ah yes… the coach who’s been here for less than one season doesn’t have any marquee wins yet. Tell me all about Doc’s marquee wins….

Doc: gone.
Huff: current head coach.
Subject of thread: idiot speculation that a near-the-top P5 program would hire CH, currently with no wins over teams that will finish the season with a winning record, in his first season, as its head coach.

Try to keep up, OK?

I predict they will hire one of the fired coaches from big schools, like the Florida coach or USC coach. Don't think they will take a chance on a coach from lesser conference, like they did with Fuentes. Just one person's opinion.

The USC coach has already been hired by future Sun Belt opponent, Georgia Southern.
