Possible this thing gets cancelled all together depending on hurricane path. Would suck. Was looking forward to it.

Going to be fine. They are now saying Hatteras in NC. 30% chance of rain Saturday, but always can change. Game on.

There is a reason the NHC only forecasts out 5 days. Through is they have no idea where it’s going to make landfall a week from now. We will have a much better idea of thinks Sunday into Monday and especially by Tuesday.

The NHC has actually shifted the cone south narrowing it. Yesterday it was so wide it stretched from cape hatteras in the north to south of Daytona beach. Now it’s narrowed to Beaufort in North Carolina to about Jacksonville with the center of the cone around santee sc

Hurricanes are more than a dot on a map and where they hit. Watch it closley. SC is now under a state of emergency ans nc is as well. The effects will be felt well inland from the coast if it hits.

More important is the Euro is starting to show a massive amount of precep. Like 20"+. That would shut down an entire state.

Ive lived in NC for a decade now and have been through several hurricanes... If a Cat 3 hits between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach it will be a travel nightmare from Charlotte north and east. By Saturday the storm should be north of Columbia and the game should be ok, its the Thursday/Friday travel that could end up being a total cluster.

Updated from storm tracker (very cool app!):
As of 8:00am Friday, HFlo will be just SE of Fayetteville, NC. Winds, even this far inland will still be 100mph - gusts to 120!
Flo is going to be a Mother......

They don’t know where it will be that far out. That’s why it is cone shaped. It has a very high probability of falling somewhere within the cone. The last part of your statement is absolutely correct

Way too early to tell. It could shift any day. Hope it does.

A lot depends on the Bermuda high that is presently shaping direction. If it does not weaken, the storm won't turn north after landfall and with the expected size of this storm and with a Friday morning landfall expected around Myrtle beach/Wilmington with lesser chances north and south, if the storm does not turn left there will still be issues in Columbia on Saturday.

Keep all this current weather information coming, folks.

Doc and his staff will need It all right up to the pre game coin flip. Will need it to insure that our call gives us "the wind in the 4th Quarter"! :D

It is Monday. In hurricane predicting, that is a very long time. Governments do, and should, predict the worst case scenario, in order to not have people get caught unprepared.

Coasts get impacted by winds and all of that, and then these things weaken as they go inland, but can carry rain well inland.

Right now, the impact center looks like Wilmington at about 2 AM Friday, and by gametime, 7:30 PM on Saturday, the center of the storm looks more likely to be somewhere much more near Blacksburg than Columbia.

Unless this thing is so bad that SC needs it cops and such to be doing more important work than rousting drunks and directing traffic at a ball game, it looks like we will be fine.

The big issues is this deal is going to flood the s*** out of the central Appalachians Saturday into Monday.

Will have 2 good tickets available most likely if anyone needs them. They are mobile tickets so I can send anywhere in an instant. $46 per ticket is what I paid. I want to go but will depend on weather.

FBS programs North Carolina, N.C. State, Appalachian State, South Carolina, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Liberty all have home games on Saturday that may be altered due to expected treacherous rainfall and wind conditions.

Normal occurrence or does it seem like fate has lined up against 10 regional teams who all happen to be in the storms path?

As mentioned in another thread, bring the game to Huntington. Why cancel the game when there is a viable option?

SC has issued evacuation notices for the entire coast. Schools are already closed for the week from lexington county, columbia, all the way south to the coast

As we get closer, the worse it looks for the Columbia area... I just saw a projection out of Greenville, Sc that has the storm just east of Columbia on Friday afternoon/night.

Most of the SC and NC coasts are under evacuation notices. ECU, Coastal Carolina and several other schools and universities have already cancelled class from Wednesday on.

This storm is no joke. And unless a significant change to the path takes place in the next 36 hours I fully expect the game to be moved to Sunday (best case scenario) or cancelled all together.

As for moving the game to Huntington, that absolutely will not happen. For one, we cant accomodate the number of tickets sold. Two, SC would lose a shit ton of revenue and they aint doing that under any scenario.

The problem with moving it to Sunday, might be finding extended team hotel accommodations in Columbia. As I'm sure coastal evacuees will have grab them all up. I've had this football weekend circled for a year, and procured ticket for both games... The Herd and USC on Saturday and back home to Atlanta to watch my Panthers pluck the Falcons on Sunday.

I hear ya man... I live just south of Asheville, NC and Ive got MU friends and family coming in Friday (but it aint looking good). Have had the SC game planned out for 6 months.

Chris Justus is the only meteorologists in the gsp market that seems like he has any clue what he’s talking about. However I think he is relying on the European model a little to much for this storm. I’ve read on a couple of weather websites that the gfs model has been more accurate in predicting the track of Florence

I live in SC, right on the water. Columbia will be fine, North Myrtle might get a rough dose of he storm, then it goes more north after hitting land.

NC and VA will need to worry inland. I think S.C. gets lucky with florence and we don’t have much to worry about in the end.

If you don't mind me asking how far south of Asheville? I grew up in WNC, in a little town called Sylva. My wife is from Charlotte.

Go to WXRISK.com. He is the best at explaining what is likely to happen and why. He makes his living forecasting and is not a TV OMG-kind of doom and gloom guy. He says the GFS is total bull hockey and that all the other models come together, but even he says the exact course is still between two paths.

We have reservations in Columbia, Friday and Saturday. I'm thinking of leaving Hurricane, West Virginia, and driving toward Knoxville. Come in around most of the rain, hopefully. Adds a couple hours to the trip but may be worth it. Any other ideas or options? Just don't want to drive I-77 through this mess.

Because the forecast is for the system to stall out, I suspect SC will need to let the Herd know something before Thursday, maybe even early Wed. I guess they could fly from Huntington to Atlanta and bus up, but I suspect the odds are greater that the game will be canceled. Then, the odds of playing later in the year are very small, and would depend on the CUSA championship game, and if SC needs a win to get bowl eligible. Some schools have found ways to move games around among FCS teams but I didn't look at Carolinas schedule to see if that is even an option. I am as concerned for southern WV as much as coastal Carolina if the amount of rain falling is what happens. Cat3 or low Cat4 can be bad, but a lot of structures can take that. A stalled out TS and a foot of rain can be a much more wide spread disaster.

Your kidding... I live in between Sylva and Franklin (on the Macon County side of Cowee Mountain). Thats a cool coincidence.

On a side note, South Carolina issued a statement last night that makes it sound like the game isnt going to happen Saturday. Basically that they have already informed the NCAA, SEC and all of their fall sports opponents for the rest of the week (including MU) that changes to the schedule are likely and "the top priority is for the safety of everyone involved."
