game time for the U Charleston exhibition is 2:00. We had over 5200 there on Thursday for an early tip with rain in the area. Hopefully we can top that Sunday!

The demise of HERD football will benefit the Basketball program's attendance. Our fans support a WINNER and turn their backs on Losers.....

No way will there be over 5,000 for an exhibition game on a Sunday........would be nice......but will not happen.

And we are no different than any other fan base. Panthers fans are/were the same way. UNC fans are/were the same way.

Nor just simply a matter of "winning" and "losing". Herd fans recognized that last year's basketball team was going through a transition, new players and a new system trying to mesh. However, for most part effort was there throughout the season, and the team was proficient in certain areas of the game. Fans stayed with team even when at times it was overmatched, talent wise.

MU football this season, however, has been LACKING all across the board from the second period of the Akron game. Effort at times has been sub par or even non existent. Ineptitude abounds across all positions: Interior linemen on both O and D CONSTANTLY beaten by counterparts on other team. None existent perimeter defense; D ends can't contain at all on perimeter and outside linebackers constantly out of position or lack lateral speed/pursuit. Performance of D backs, or lack thereof, speaks for itself.

Offensively, schemes seem overly "simple" but nonetheless our QB and receivers constantly seem to be unable to get on same page. QB can't/won't go through progressions and O line, touted to be as good as Doc has had since has been here, would have trouble successfully blocking a foursome made up of a bridge club table at a geriatric center. No real bright spot that stands out on the team that really gives fans something to cheer for or to be excited about.

Bottom line: Herd fans WILL support a team that is losing but looks like they have a reasonable game plan and are putting forth a genuine effort. However, fans are sophisticated enough to recognize when NEITHER plan nor effort is present, and will not back, in significant numbers, a squad when both team and coaches are just going through the motions.

I was at the game today and there is no way we had 5,138. More like 2,138.

I agree, but I think perspective is necessary. I was at both Thursday night's game as well as Sunday. The attendance surprised me in both. Having come to these exhibition games through the years you never expect it to be very well attended. But Thursday, with an early tip (6:00) and it pouring to rain, the crowd was very good for an exhibition. That's encouraging. It tells me that the interest is up. Sunday I felt was below Thursday, but again, still very well attended given the opponent and the time. Considering that the official attendance showed over 5000 is a positive as well, because it shows that a nice amount of season tickets have been sold. If this team can put themselves in the hunt during conference play, I look for some really nice atmosphere for our home games.

Wrong again Two.
I purchased my Carolina Panthers PSL in 1996 [two seats], the first year our Panthers opened their new Charlotte stadium. Carolina played their first NFL season at Clemson. Our stadium is full on game day, perhaps some empty seats in the nose-bleed section, depending on the opponent. The overload of NFL games has seen empty seats at ALL NFL CITIES and TV viewing numbers are off. Therefore, pointing out Carolina Panthers is Bullship.

THE ACC has been experiencing less than full stadiums for years....a trend being seen across America. The fact that most home owners have large flat screen TVs, sports bars show games, and schools in the ACC have not been very good--until Clemson's rise to one of the best in America----the ACC usually have large crowds in their stadiums that seat on average---55,000 and above. Therefore, pointing our UNC-Chapel Hill is Bullship.

Gary, sports attendance has been on a 5 year slide. Most every organization and college program has experienced a decrease in attendance at some point in this period. But hey, keep on tearing down MU's fan base if you want. Been around Hamrick too much.

so 5,000 fans to watch 2 local teams play is good?

Keatons, wouldn't necessarily say UC is local, about 50 miles away. And given that 5,000 fans would be about what they draw for about 10 games at home. Might even say 500 a game is a little high for UC. So would not expect them to bring a "throng" to the Cam. Noon game would also foreclose a lot of fans who are usually attending church around mid morning or later to noon.
