Just wondered how that is any different than losing to a FCS school in football?

Campbell was good. No, they had a tune up vs Milligan and that was the sloppiest 30 point win i have witnessed in person.

That is correct but still a pretty embarrassing loss. This was scheduled to be a tune up game that you win by 15-20 points.
Campbell is no slouch. They were supposed to be a tune up game for Duke as well, but they ended up competing well with them. Remember watching some of that game, and it was relatively close throughout, with Duke winning by 10-11 points.

Campbell may not be a tune up game but they should be. Coach said in the post game "They have won 27 out of their last thirty or something like that" He was pretty close. They have won 19 out of their last thirty with NC State and Marshall being probably the two most recognizable names in that list. Last year they were 17-10 overall, 11-6 in conference.

Campbell is an average team. They are very much like a good Ivy League team with the back cuts and passing. They are there for the taking by an athletic team with any sort of discipline at all. Marshall is a wild team though. The "free" style of play is just wildness with this team. And I fail to see what analytics in a macro sense has to do with a specific group of players who by and large can't shoot from the outside, particularly as a tool to inform strategy within a particular game where the players are struggling even by their standards of accuracy. It was a pretty disastrous performance against an average team that was scheduled to lose.

The Big South is a Division I conference, as we have established. However it is made up of smaller colleges, average enrollment about 4000, playing in what can only be described as gyms, and generally yields a champion that is among the lowest seeds.

But the main point is that this was a non-return game, AFAIK. Non-return games are supposed to be wins.

We looked bad, but ODU was smoked by 50 points by a mediocre Indiana State.

There are learning opportunities here. My guess is that they will be ignored.
