Opting not to play in the Camillia Bowl how do you feel our chances of winning without them are?

Beckett is the captain of that defense and Knox is our best offensive player. Ball is our best OL. I don't feel good at all about us winning this game. The fact they don't want to play in their final games tells me the rest of the team probably couldn't care any less to be there either.

This is going to be a monumental embarrassment.

Good news! We are getting used to monumental embarrassments.

Think I will get my people together at that time for a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity. Be much more interesting.

There are going to be a lot more players opting out than has been reported so far. Knox, Ball and Beckett are “preparing for the draft” but really they’re just like another 5 to 6 key players who have no interest in finishing the season and are walking away.

I have been around so long I can still remember when the players cared. I will never forget Byron Leftwich being carried down the field cause he could not walk but refused to "sit it out". He wanted the Herd to win. Oh well those were the days.....

PS. I will say this. If some more of those with" no interest" are planning on coming back next year Tell them not to whine when life long fans like me (50 years) find something else to do next fall.

Great news!!!

Did you know....

We still have 80 or so scholarship players on the team....

GASP!!!

Yes for real!!! Crazy huh.

The rolling of an entire team into your perceptions of three, is kinda weak.

no....my bad...

Its actually very weak.

Obviously, Marshall football isn't for them.

Which begs the question, what happened with all 80 during the week leading up to the Charlotte game? With that many players, one would have to think the Herd could have fielded a team against Charlotte.

I'm sorry guys but I am ticked off if this is true .It is bad enough that we have 3 making this call. When I was a kid I would sit in the stands when we would go 1-10 year after year and cheer on the Herd and was happy to do so. I have sat through games when it was raining, snowing and so cold I thought I might freeze to root on the Herd. Many times I have got in a car and driven hours to watch the Herd play on the road. I have always been proud to wear the kelly green and white and am proud that Marshall is one of three universities I have graduated from. All this talk about the 75 is a bunch of bull. They didn't quit and the Young Thundering Herd didn't sit one out either. Come to think about it I don't recall Randy, Chad, Doug, Byron and others who were hoping to be drafted sitting out a bowl game either. Sorry for the rant ....

I think it has to do more with today's mentality. We live in a culture where it's all about me, as opposed to the betterment of the team. It holds true in many aspects of life as a whole. Remember when the old man would work double shifts just to put food on the table? Hell, I have trouble with people bitching about having to work 15-30 minutes over. Can't be late for Yoga class.

I blame ESPN, Facebook, cellphones, and technology as a whole for ruining society.

Cant blame Ball, Beckett or Knox for sitting out and prepping for the draft... Those three have a chance to play NFL ball next year and they can't risk getting hurt in a meaningless bowl game.

The unnamed others who have decided not to play because they don't feel like it, that's another story. Take your tail home and let mommy tell you how great you are, then go find another jersey to wear next year.

It’s literally the mentality that has been created by football fans. Over the last few years this is what I have heard from fans.

We have to have an IPF or recruits won’t come. We have to have multiple uniform combinations or kids won’t come. We have to have locker rooms and facilities buildings that have all the luxuries you can imagine or kids won’t come here. Coaches can’t raise their voices at kids or their feelings will get hurt and they will transfer. On and on and on. It’s amazing how all of those kids in the past were able to prepare for the draft and play in a bowl game. For Marshall It’s 1 extra week this year. I could better understand if you were a Trevor Lawrence type who is guaranteed to make millions but none of our 3 are guaranteed to even get drafted so any additional film they could show scouts could only help them.

There are a lot more players sitting out than those 3, so the perceptions are fair. And for them it has nothing to do with the NFL Draft. They’ve just grown tired of playing for a program that is imploding. Leadership (or lack thereof) failed them.

We live in a different time. Things are different in college football right now.
I know Aaron but it drives me crazy. Plenty of us would have loved to have the talent to play for the Herd and would have cherished the opportunity. Man I miss the old days.....

RhinoD what do you mean “we can’t blame Ball, Beckett, or Knox” for sitting out. I call BS. We gave them scholarships to play and they need to honor their commitment to Marshall and take their chances. How do they know that the NFL will even give them a sniff?

They played the season, this is an "extra" game and I do not blame anyone for sitting out a bowl game if they have the potential to live their dream.

You have to look at this from the young mens' POV, the upside vs. the downside. Are any of them going to improve their prospects by getting another game on tape?
OR
The downside of the increased possibility of injury in playing yet another game?
In a RB's position, it's a no brainer, you sit out.

If I’m in the front office of an NFL team I would take off my board anybody who quit on their college team,. With that said ...good luck in the future to Knox, Beckett, Ball and others MIA. . I hope you all have great lives.

1st, you're not in a front office.
2nd, players' serious injuries in CF games cost have cost CFP's a lot of money. And the trend has been that players sitting out hasn't hurt their prospects at all.

You should try watching this thing called college football. It is fun.

These guys listed by Chris are super talented and first/second round picks from P5 schools. Excepting Pitts injury the rest opted out before the season due to acceptable “Covid”concerns. The Marshall players opted out with 5 days notice to pursue a NFL career...really? There is always a chance of injury, football is a big boy sport. Like it or not our guys let their team down. They let the fans down and collectively they will be remembered by this fan with disdain.

Things change overtime. College football leadership has cheapened bowl games by allowing 2/3 of FBS members to participate...sometimes even taking teams with a losing record or the only reason they got to .500 is with an FCS win.

Dont be pissed at players for seeing that and no longer having any pride to play in them. Blame the executives for cheapening it.

Fair.

But check out Tre Brown at Oklahoma.

Check out Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche at Miami.

Read up on Michael Carter, Dyami Brown and LB Chazz Surratt at UNC.

Georgia has NINE starters sitting out the Orange Bowl.

Kadarius Toney is likely out for Florida.

Jaelon Darden? You know, the CUSA MVP from North Texas? He didn't play in his team's bowl game either.

Y'all can choose to be pissed at guys like Ball, Beckett and Knox if you'd like - but just know this type of thing is happening everywhere - not just at little 'ol Marshall.
