So With Some of Our Best Players

RhinoD what do you mean “we can’t blame Ball, Beckett, or Knox” for sitting out. I call BS. We gave them scholarships to play and they need to honor their commitment to Marshall and take their chances. How do they know that the NFL will even give them a sniff?

So you would rather them fake an illness or injury to get out of the bowl game rather than be honest?

Also, if you have a chance to play in the NFL you know it by now. Between the "advisors" that are always around football and basketball programs, to mock drafts, to positional rankings based on stats, there is a wealth of information out there to help kids make informed decisions... Of course it doesn't always work out, but kids that are juniors/seniors know if they have a real NFL opportunity or not.

Fair.

But check out Tre Brown at Oklahoma.

Check out Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche at Miami.

Read up on Michael Carter, Dyami Brown and LB Chazz Surratt at UNC.

Georgia has NINE starters sitting out the Orange Bowl.

Kadarius Toney is likely out for Florida.

Jaelon Darden? You know, the CUSA MVP from North Texas? He didn't play in his team's bowl game either.

Y'all can choose to be pissed at guys like Ball, Beckett and Knox if you'd like - but just know this type of thing is happening everywhere - not just at little 'ol Marshall.

What are your thoughts on our players not preparing for the NFL draft that are skipping the bowl?

Christian mccaffrey did it so by his logic he would have passed on him too
I actually like McCaffrey and he plays hard. Today the players are about me not the team. In my day, I’m 73 the collective not the individual is what mattered. Our culture is “me first” and the team is secondary. This attitude has spread into all walks of life and has hurt society as a whole. In the EU (25 countries) young people under 25 were asked would you go to war for your country today (2020) and only 13.8 % said yes. Not to be political but the days of paddling kids, openly saying the Lords Prayer in school and being home by 11pm were good things. Unfortunately, the good old days are gone for the younger generation. And lastly, I absolutely love high school and college sports. I’m a proud booster of my local high school and Marshall. To this point my teams are full of great people with great values. I simply don’t want this to change. Go Wolves! Go HERD!

Glad they have their degrees. I love Marshall and our guys but sometimes I think we, and they, get a distorted view of how good they are. We don’t play the best coneor

kids get shitty advise and that’s an issue. Not many dudes can play at Marshall only 2-3 seasons have an NFL career. Just fact.
Overinflated opinions of themselves and getting pumped with bad advise from those around them.
it’s a hell of lot different playing against Rice than the Steelers

Per Grant At Herald Dispatch no Willie Johnson, Pitts or Drayton. He said not COVID related but no reason given (big shock) for them not playing.

Looks like they might be getting a early jump on the transfer portal. Maybe they are hurt though.

Can't be hurt. Didn't give any effort in last 2 games.

No fvcking excuse for not knowing where the first down marker is. Wells needs to toughen up and dive for the first.

Okay... so I can't help myself. How many on this board would opt out of playing another game for Doc Holiday? Which is greater - the risk of injury or the risk of embarrassment due to poor preparation, terrible play calling, and general commitment to mediocrity?

We just lost to Buffalo, UAB, and Rice in three consecutive games. There is no possible positive spin. We hng a donut against Rice, didn't complete a pass until after halftime against UAB, and managed to run less than 20 offensive plays in the first half against Buffalo. Two of those in the Joan!!!

Wells clearly has no confidence - but the real question is "in what?" - no confidence in his arm, his line, his offensive coordinator, or his head coach based? Got a feeling the transfer portal will have a lot more MU players visiting it in the next few weeks.

The air is out of the balloon. Players fighting in the parking lot, three straight terrible losses, key contributors bailing from the sinking ship, and a totally deflated fan base. What will the Marshall Administration do??? My guess is nothing significant. With a contract running through next June, I don't anticipate Doc getting fired by his good buddy Mike Hamrick. Frankly, in the middle of a pandemic, I am guessing that the University has bigger fish to fry than dealing with a problem that goes away in 6-months. Will Holliday step down??? Highly doubt that - but I could be wrong.

Good luck selling season tickets going into next year. Terrible economy, depressed fan-base, and a team in turmoil. Time for some serious soul searching on the part of the coaching staff and administration. Hope we don't put this on the kids - they have done just about everything asked of them.
