I keep reading all these horror stories about the NIL money that colleges, including Marshall, are shelling out for athletes. I don’t see how this is sustainable unless the schools can recover some of that funding. Here is my take: no athlete can compete for anything without being part of the university team. So start charging them for the services that are provided to them. Facility fee for use of the stadium and locker room facilities. Uniform fee for being able to be showcased in a nationally known brand. This would included fees for cleaning and maintenance of garments and footwear. Food fees for any meals provided by the school. Public relation fees for promotion of the athlete. Travel fee for transportation to any non local games. Hotel fees for any overnight stays. Coaching fees for profession instruction. Medical fees for treatment of any injuries and any costs of injury rehab.

Let’s make college ball strictly a business. It is already ruined anyway.

Always been my argument. In addition to tuition and all that, if you take the annual amount spent on football and divide that by the total number of players, some schools are spending well over $300,000 per player. The player’s NIL is worth nothing without that expenditure.

That's why citizens's of the states need this info and should ring up their state legislatures or do a class action lawsuit. We are paying for this nonsense. It is a clear case of fraud, waste, and abuse. Federal and state funds are being used for it.

The only thing that surprises me is that the NIL concept hasn’t gone further. What if a talented college actor demanded a cut of the gate earnings. Or a musician in the college orchestra wanting the same. What cut do band members get for spending their Saturdays playing at the games?

The last game I attended, I saw my image on the big new scoreboard. I’m still waiting for my check.

You would be eligible for a $3.85 check or $4.50 off your next football ticket.
