Soccer vs Charlotte

Ahh the old be satisfied with the status quo defense. And I didn’t bring it up. I asked what the Charlotte coach said and made a statement affirming what he said was true. There is no debate. I’m sorry you can’t handle that.
I can handle, it see it every day. I just don't see the need to pile on as you did. What good does it do?

I didn’t see you ask what he said, my bad. He gave a brief statement post-game basically insinuating how the soccer gods screwed the better team because we were gifted a penalty and our one shot off the cross went in. He also said yesterday how his team hasn't practiced together as one in over 4 weeks, which is weird since everyone else is. He just seems to always be making excuses instead of giving props.

It is a lower middle class neighborhood. It is full of old people living on pensions who didn't save enough to retire elsewhere, who (Huntington and West Virginia's biggest problem) won't be "replaced" when they die off because those type of people left to find work in modern times.

So, went on realtor.com . Houses in the general vicinity of the stadium are running between $80K and $140K, give or take. The closest one for sale to the place is $210K. That ain't the hood. Its, like a lot of places, has seen better days.

Citing crime statistics scored on the other side of the tracks in a totally different community is irrelevant. I'm sorry it offends to see something other than a Barboursville or Teays Valley suburban McMansion in the backdrop of a ball game.

Who said anything about being offended? Wanting to better the area is offensive?!?! Look I get the elderly crowd can’t climb up the ladder and slap a coat of paint on the house. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to put our best foot forward on national “tv”

'429 went to a wealthy high school where he claims he was bused in. He may not be familiar with lower-middle class, so forgive him for his lack of tact.

Yeah....on national T.V....where many, many times during football season the cameras are kept close on the field so as to hide the fact that there are more empty seats than not, that kind of national TV?

Since you’re so familiar with my background you would know that it was a magnet school that you had to apply for.

Where are these $140k and $210k homes near the stadium?

My reference was to 1965 and later.
I was a freshman at Marshall at that time and lived in what was then South Hall. Trying to see what I can remember after more than half a century.
I remember the area between 18th and 20th was mostly cleared lots with only two Marshall buildings. Gulkison and the school maintenance building. On the 3rd Ave side was an apartment building, a little cafe, a laundromat, a bakery, Gato bar, Glasser Furniture, and on the corner of 3rd and 20th was an old run down building that sold five and dime items. Like a 60s Dollar Store.
The 5th Ave side had some vacant lots, an empty Kroger building used for storage, and a large church where the new rec center is today.
Probably a few I missed, but these days I am lucky to remember my name without looking at my license.

The last time I visited Huntington, I made it a point to drive by the new soccer stadium. I remember as a student at Marshall going to basketball games at the old field house, and I wanted to see the changes.
The stadium itself is very attractive. Granted, the area around it is somewhat dilapidated, but my hope is that as the houses decay, they will be condemned and demolished. I look forward to a day in the future when Marshall will stretch all the way between 3rd and 5th to meet the stadium.
I'd like to see some student housing complexes put in that area once its bulldozed. Direct road to the IPF, Kroger, Rio Grande like 2 blocks away. I'm sure it'll be revamped in the future.

I for one like the view of the community. sure remodeling on some is needed but I’ve always loved the old brick work that you see in houses in Huntington that is unique. Some nearby amenities or mix-use building would be cool.

I went to Charlotte a few weeks ago. One of the saddest things I have seen since the pandemic. It was dead. Went to eat and our group was the only people in the restaurant. Everything was closed down and nothing going on. Went to Mebane, NC a week later and it was more vibrant that Charlotte. People at least enjoying themselves and out and about. I swear there were more people out and about than there were out in Charlotte. WTF?

I am guessing at least the people in Huntington are out doing things right now. Charlotte was sad. What happened to that place? I know what. Won't say it though.

Finally, nobody in NC gives a shit about UNC Charlotte sports.

Marshall has character and passion. Charlotte is a good school but are there really diehard Charlotte fans?

This.

Marshall is in a fundamentally different and better position, relative to the rest of CUSA. The rest all live in the shadow of at least one major in-state program. Virginia/Virginia Tech, UNC/NC State, Florida/Florida State/Miami, Alabama/Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Texas/Texas A&M. And even Ole Miss/Mississippi State, while not able to really win the the Greatest Conference In The History Of The World, still suck 99% of the air out of the conversation. All of these are left with some alumni and some townies. That is all.

We do not face that. All we have is WVU, which never has, and never will, be in that company.

They are. Things didn’t change for most of Little Detroit:

......I looked up the definition of prurient in Webster’s. Lo & behold, there was a photo of rifle! You are, if nothing else, consistent....
