Herd Softball is 13-5 going into conference play. Two of those losses came to currently (Coaches Poll, as of 2/26. Today's poll isn't released yet) ranked teams - Auburn and South Alabama - another to South Carolina, listed as receiving votes. Looks like this should be a good year for our softball team!
First home games are 3/13 and a double header on 3/14 against WKU, followed up by a double header against Ohio on 3/19.

Meanwhile, the baseball team is 4-7. Next Huntington series is against Rhode Island, 3/6 through 3/8. Next Beckley series is against UTSA, 3/13 through 3/15. Next Charleston series is against FIU, 3/27 thorugh 3/29. And as always, we have home games in way too many places.

Anyone else going to try and make some of these games?

softball's top pitcher and top offensive player are both just sophomores. morgan zerkle is hitting .531 in 18 games, she's scored 25 runs in just 18 games, is 24 of 26 on stolen bases. she has 34 hits and 24 stolen bases, she turns bunt singles into doubles most of the time.

Hope that field is in condition to play. I'm not sure what the forecast is for the next 10 days, but it will need to somehow dry out. Otherwise, it will be a mud fest. I figure there's a bunch of snow currently on the field.

The Rhode Island series is going to be cancelled. The outfield at the Kennedy Center is just to saturated. Hopefully the weather will hold for the series in Beckley and luckily that field has field turf.

I haven't seen an update from Marshall yet but on the Rhode Island Baseball schedule page, the series is listed as cancelled.

Marshall has cancelled the series against Rhode Island, due to the impending weather approaching WV and will instead play George Mason University in Thomasville N.C. at Thomasville-High Point Hi-Toms Field.

Hey mubaseballking.....I hope you get the opportunity to attend the HERD-Rhode Island game [March 6-9] to be played in Finch Field/Thomasville Hi-Toms Stadium. It is something to behold. I thought Ghosts from the Chicago White Sox (Field of Dreams) or even players from The Natural were living in the woods behind the outfield fence where the batting cages are located. The most interesting point of the field is it's STEEP WARNING TRACK in the outfield. I thought our left fielder was going to break his leg running "uphill" at full steam to catch a deep fly ball, during our NC State AAA Baseball Championship in May, 2013. The warning track appears to about a 45 degree incline.

Baseball has been played at Finch Field since 1937. Current skipper of the Florida Marlins, Jack McKeon won a championship in 1968. Today the field is home to the Thomasville, NC Hi-Toms who play in the Coastal Plains League.

The field is decorated with picture of major league baseball players of old who once played there.

I help coach high school baseball at Charlotte Christian School and two years ago we won our second consecutive state AAA NC at Finch Field. It was renovated a few years ago and has covered seating for the fans.

First pitch of Saturday's double header is scheduled for 2:00 PM with the road trip concluding with a Sunday 1:00 PM start.

He is an unauthorized, unofficial scorer. The kids think he is an elderly man with a severe case of autism, so they begrudgingly give him a low-five (Gary'S weeney is a little guy, at least in height) when he starts his own post-game handshake line.

Unlike you Pee Shooter...I do not have $$$$$ owed me. I get paid ON TIME.

You going to sue Boo-thune Cookman for owed wages? I seriously doubt you earned the $$$$. You spend way TOO MUCH TIME stalking me & dreaming of my Weenie, leaving little time for coaching.

The Marshall/Rhode Island series has been cancelled. The Herd is playing George Mason at Finch Field/Thomasville Hi-Toms Stadium.

With the current weather and such here in WV, I won't be making the trip to NC for the games.

Jack McKeon is retired. Hasn't managed the Marlins since 2011. Its 2015, FYI.

Anybody know what happened to this Sunday's TV coverage. Final game at UAB was on the ASN schedule, and on WCHS's side channel and several regional sports networks. Guides updated overnight and it disappeared.

I know I am really late replying, but there is no dirt in Beckley. The field is 100% FieldTurf. It has good drainage. They got the games in with the only issue being the rain that fell during the series last week, not the snow that stayed on it for over a week.
