Athletes are always in the spotlight for bad things off of the field, but two instances over the last week didn't get a lot of national media coverage but were pretty cool stories.

After a Red Sox World Series win last week, Mookie Betts, one of the best players in baseball, was spotted delivering food to homeless outside of the public library at 1 am. The wives of Red Sox players have volunteered a lot at the food pantry, so Betts had some ties to it. Betts, along with his cousin, grabbed food from there and delivered it to homeless, after a World Series game, at 1 am! On top of that, both he and his cousin were wearing hoodies (with the hoods up) so Betts wouldn't be as recognizable while doing it.

A friend of mine was teammates with Betts in high school baseball, played against him in college, and said he has always been a great guy.

Then, today, a group of Giants players did something cool. One of them, a former player I coached at Cookman, posted a picture dressed up in a Halloween costume with a bunch of other guys dressed up. They all dressed up as superheroes and went to a children's hospital on their off day during the season. Getting a bunch of Giants players to come visit would be cool as a kid, but having them dress up would be amazing.

Captain America was white and it is highly offensive that a black would make fun of a war hero and American legend. He certainly would not have worn a Giants sweatshirt. We all know what team is American's team.

This just shows how backwards you are. You're worried about Captain America, yet Luigi, a guy who is an Italian plumber, is being played by a black guy? You do realize the general bigotry of Italians towards blacks, right? The guidos won't like this very much if it gets out.

On top of that, a black guy should never dress up as some sort of employee. We all know why.

And for the record, that is good news and glad they are doing good work in their community.

a small thing in the grand scheme, but a yuge thing to the kids. a friend's kid crashed his side by side and was rushed to morgantown a couple weeks ago. they had to do emergency surgery, he was in for a bit over a week. his highlight of the stay was grier and sills coming to visit him.

No one is going to point out the fact that BatMan is black in this photograph? Herdman only commenting on Marvel Universe characters and not recognizing DC characters is offensive to the world of DC.

We can go ahead and torch this thread. One of the five guys in the picture that went to the hospital was arrested today.

Anyone care to guess which one it wasn't?
