The problem for some seems to be that the administration is working at a 12 hour a day, 7 day a week pace when they are used to seeing government move slower than an arthritic turtle.
Why take 6 months to fix something that can be fixed in six weeks, that in the past has been talked about but not fixed in 6, or 60, years? The trade issue has been a problem since 1972 when we suffered our first trade deficit. That’s 53 consecutive years of sending out more money than what we’re bringing in, and it gets worse every year.
Had the CEO tell me once “ we’re going to aim the train down the track and hit full throttle. If it jumps the track, we’ll stop and put it back on, but we are not going to waste another second not moving forward”. That’s decisive leadership. You know where you want to go, so go. You can spend decades on analysis, going through every scenario, and still get derailed or, worse yet, never start. A stationary target is the first one killed. Start running and adjust on the fly, but keep moving forward.
We need bold action. If we don’t change we are looking at 150% debt to GDP in less than 5 years. Two ways to fix that, slash spending and increase GDP more rapidly. Tariffs are the one thing that can boost GDP faster than anything else.
