Stan Parrish

He coached MU's first non losing season with a win at East Tenn. State. 1984 or 85. He was an offensive minded coach and started MU's passing progression for the future.

Probably. He was the QB coach at Michigan for a few years, and even the OC for a couple years there. Even coached Tom Brady while at Michigan, and was on the staff when they last won a national championship in 1997, when he was Griese's QB coach.

1984, my freshmen year. I remember it well. RIP coach.

I was at the ETSU game. What a day and what a memory. Parrish was a good guy. I know he wished he would have stayed.

Just to show how far we have come, while there was a lot of “drop the program” talk immediately following the plane crash, the era that SP had to live through was almost as close to that happening as well.

For his first season, a condition of him taking the job was that we spring for a new set of uniforms. Yes, not 40 years ago, buying a new set of uniforms was a major expense for this program. The ones we bought were Penn State/Alabama plain, not because we were trying to emulate them, but because that was all we could afford.

Fairfield was on its last legs. The non-scoreboard side was condemned and torn down and replaced with a HS style aluminum bleachers. Which were not installed until the morning of the first game. The state was broke (Rockefailure) and the state (Rockefailure) was 100% anti-public education and 100% times 1000 anti-Marshall. So broke that it took the legislature over-ruling his plan to shut down MU for a month and just give everybody credit for taking the classes anyway, which would have led to the school losing it accreditation and to the professors, who were not going to get paid for that month, leaving if they possibly could.

In sum, the whole program was run out of a cigar box.

Maybe that is why I lose patience with those who don’t see the level we have risen to, and the great men, SP being one of them, who help that rise, as enough for them.

RIP
