My guess, if it's not the Emergency declaration, it will be some type of self-aggrandizing statement intended to apply pressure to the Dems, which will backfire on him because he doesn't have the self-awareness or humility to understand that the majority of the public is holding him accountable for this mess (despite the fact he said he would own it).
I admit, it was a terrible joke. Just terrible and not good.

If this is true...a new offer...it sounds like a public version of what already hasn’t worked in their private negotiations. This is going to be more about trying to shift public sentiment then believing it will actually work. It’s best case scenario timing wise for the president in light of yesterday’s events though. But I tend to agree with 98, this will go nowhere.
He could take a deal and open the govt back up. He could have done that three weeks ago. You said he is taking the blame for it. Other side won't even sit down. He could cave, like most other politicians and past Republicans, and take some bull shit deal to keep the glorious government open and so we could continue to study cow farts.

He had both Chambers his first two years and couldn't push something through, yet he takes this hardline position now?
But that's not even the best part. The best (worst?) is that he claims he's doing this to keep Americans safe, yet the people who are actually putting their lives on the line everyday (DOJ, BOP, CBP employees) to keep the country safe aren't getting paid, but are still expected to work the same hours, with the same focus as always. Not only that, he sat there and said, in a recorded interview, if the shutdown happened, he would own it. Owning it is saying "I'm causing this shutdown. This is happening because of me." Instead, he continues to place the blame entirely on the Democrats.
Now, don't get me wrong, Congress - including the leadership in both parties - have played a huge part in this debacle as well. But, that doesn't absolve the idiot in charge of his role in starting a fight he has no leverage in or ability to win.

Trump offers a compromise or atleast a starting point. Pelosi shoots it down before even hearing it yet some how it’s trumps fault. The media will be silent and probably blame trump for not giving the democrats more. But yeah let’s keep blaming trump
Wait it’s this the exact same deal graham proposed back in December to avoid a shutdown and trump shot it down.
