Stewart decommits and commits to LSU

When the SEC comes calling, you have to consider it.

I see Locklear and Ross both ending up at Tennessee, Stewart to LSU, Pitts to Florida.

4 SEC kids out of WV and WVU gets none

More importantly, we don't get any of them. If we can convince guys like Yulee and Gaines to come here in spite of offers from other programs then we should be able to keep some guys home.

They came here because of grades and didn't want to go to a JUCO, let's be honest with ourselves

You do realize Gaines is eligible and Yulee is rumored to be? Both could have gone anywhere in the country.

Let's just say, follow recruiting a lot better than you. There is a reason why we was Gaines only OV and Alabama pulled Yulee scholarship. Look I'm glad they are here but let's not deny the fact they are here because of grades.

I'm starting to notice a trend. Why do we care about what WVU does so much? The comment above was more focused on them than us. Who cares what WVU does?

i noticed a trend too... a lot of our "new freshman" eager to be here usually have 2 or 3 posts before they start with the "I hate WVU as much as the next guy, BUT...."

don't feel bad, none of you have lasted more than a week.

What makes your response worst is the Article was written 5 months before players can take OVS.

I will stand that we was his ONLY OV.

None of them will see the field. Look at what Tenn and LSU have recruited. The level of competition in WV can't hold a jock strap to the level of what other players have faced signing with those same schools. If you are good enough the NFL will find you. The first day of practice will be an eye opener for them. All I can say is Good Luck!

Switzer is doing quite fine for himself at UNC.

You never know what happens when your on the field with them. These kids are showing up to camps and walking out with Committable offers. Same camps that All-American kids are at.

I understand the lure of playing at the highest the level but the odds are much greater against you and if you do play it might not be unail your junior or senior year. At Marshall that guy starts his 1st year or 2nd and has a large amount to of games for NFL to go by. It's not like we are a div 3 team. We have guys in the NFL all the time.

Schools like LSU will tell a recruit anything to get them to sign. When you get there you will see depth of guys 3 to 4 deep who could have gone anywhere in the country and started. Some of those guys sit the bench their whole careers and could have come to a school like Marshall and possibly started and made a name for themselves.

I ask again, how many players did we have drafted this past draft? Johansson was a 3 year starter and one of the best in the conference and he didn't last 3 rookie practices.

College experience and success don't mean shit to the NFL

Actually Andy I am just already tired of seeing the WVU bashing. I'm a Marshall fan but I had family that went to WVU. If all Marshall fans do is compare themselves to WVU then that's stupid. I don't root for them but I sure as hell don't spend my time trying to compare what we are doing to them. How about grow a pair get a herd on while you're at it.

I guess you was recruited by LSU and know how they recruit? Seems like they have been recruit good lately

You knew exactly what I meant. So either continue the Sports discussion or head back to the hilljacks board.

If you're going to be so condescending to everyone can you at least do it in the English language?
Lighten up, Cuz...we all know The Fev has the social skills of Attilla and he is not exactly a Rhodes Scholar in English Composition...but he is pretty knowledgeable in college football. :D

We all have to take a little of the bad to get a lot of good. He is much better than his brotha from anotha motha, Extra ;)

Good luck to him and good for him for wanting to get out of West Virginia. There is a big world out there and we can't fault a kid for wanting to go someplace new. Sure it sucks to lose him but I never fault kids for wanting to go away from home

Because MU and WVU both recruit some of the same players. The bigger point here is if the Big 12 Errs couldn't get some instate kids to choose then over the SEC then our chances were certainly no better.

These kids don't get it that you better be all-world if you want to start 3 years in the SEC. Unless it's UK or Vandy.

Kids live in that make-believe world and their parents are basking in the glow of their kids high school glory... Look out for that head-on collision with REALITY

Stewart will get a strong case of homesickness because of the culture shock. Performance wise, he will battle in the depth chart. He'll be home in two years as a transfer.

While I understand a kid my get to play more at Marshall, I don't fault them for wanting to go to a SEC school especially LSU or even UT. Maybe they want to get away from WV. Heck, how many of our own Marshall graduates leave after college? I can understand the kids wanting to try something new. Heck, I left WV 19 years ago after college and don't regret it at all so I am not going to criticize a kid that wants to leave WV for college. It would be great to have those kids but they are getting an opportunity at a free education at a great university so good for them.

I don't fault them either, but I know a lot of these big-program coaches blow smoke up their asses.

It's not just smoke, since only a handful go pro a lot of them love the big time football atmosphere week in and week out. Playing time their junior and senior year vs all four years is a factor but it's also awesome to play in front of 100,000 people in a football culture every week vs hoping to sell out 39,000 seats once in their career. I'd personally want the playing time more but most of them want the whole experience. It's not a knock on us, it's just a fact of the SEC culture.

Anybody with a chance to test himself against the best in the Greatest Conference In The History Of The World is smart to do so. Even the bottom schools like UK or Vandy are vast steps up from playing for a field filler in the Big 2, Little 8, let alone playing in CUSA. And we are not talking about UK or Vandy, but about LSU. One of the top programs in the country.

And MU fans, mostly, get that. If someone has a real chance to go to a program like LSU, they should. But dig the delusion you see in the comments on Raese Radio's Metrosnooze website. It is as delusional a Spamite place as any of the real dedicated Spamite ones. These people ACTUALLY BELIEVE that someone with a choice goes to the Hole over places like LSU. They are now in full song about this Pitts kid from SC. Who WANTS to go to Florida or Tennessee, but may have the SETTLE for the Hole. Because that is what recruiting really is, outside the top 20 or so programs. Getting kids that have been told "son, you are a fine ballplayers, but you are just not good enough for us" to SETTLE for you over others. Something Doc is a master of. One of the best ever at that skill.

I was having this discussion recently. If those kids were my kid, I'd say go to LSU, TN, etc and see if you get playing time, Marshall will always be there for you to transfer back too if things dont work out. Not too many kids have the opportunity to play in the SEC go see how you do. You can always transfer home and probably get more playing time. Its just a fact.

Florida wants Pitts, he had a great showing at The Opening. Don't discredit Tennessee either. But I think Florida is the frontrunner for Pitts

I get all that. I am like you, I would rather have playing time..unless I knew I was that damn good to dominate and start at least three years. Some kids are.

I know guys that got the smoke blown up their butts, so yeah it happens. Charlie Strong when at Louisville was good at recruiting those guys.

I hope we stay on him just in case he changes his mind
Exactly, ohio herd. Like everyone else, I'm disappointed that we have apparently lost out on a highly rated in state, local player. On the other hand, when you think about it, you have to be somewhat upbeat that Doc and his staff are going head to head with the very top of the "power" leagues for some of these recruits. It says volumes how MU is being perceived by many top flight recruits out there. Keep on winning at the level we have been in last 3 years and having success in post season and we will continue to attract the interest of some of these top, 3 or 4 star recruits, and landing a few. We are NOT LOSING these recruits to the bottom feeders of some of the power conferences or to mid and lower level MAC and other G5 schools, other sisters of the poor, etc. GO HERD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually think there's a chance we get him eventually anyway. Possibly as a transfer after two years at Penn State.

Agreed. Not necessarily with Pitts but with any of these kids from WV going to FBS schools outside the state. The law of recruiting averages (yes, I made that up) says a couple of them won't pan out with their first schools.
