Fret not over Pitts and these other lost high-profile recruits. At least two of them -- if not more -- will become disillusioned and return to Marshall.
Agreed. Not necessarily with Pitts but with any of these kids from WV going to FBS schools outside the state. The law of recruiting averages (yes, I made that up) says a couple of them won't pan out with their first schools.
I used to do radio play by play for Merritt Island, HS in Florida. Seeing all the talent there was day and night from having broadcast football in WV for years. A real eye opener. I remember one year Merritt Island was playing Ocala Vanguard. There were over a dozen seniors on the two teams that went on to play division 1 football the next year including Daunte Culpepper.Raised in WV watched HS sports for many, many years. Moved to metro ATL a few years ago and watch a lot of HS football down here. Georgia is #4 in D1 recruits and #4 in number of state natives on NFL rosters behind only CA, TX, and Fla. Truth is, the best player on your average WV HS team would have trouble getting on the field on some of these better programs down here. Besides that, the coaching at the top schools is unbelievable. That's why I don't lose a lot of sleep when a WV kid leaves. Sometimes I don't understand it, but for the most part the kid coming into the state for that scholarship from some of these other places is more athletic, better coached, and ready to contribute sooner.
