Stolen vehicle

Thanks for the tip, Doc.

They didn't want to give me the anticipated trade-in value on my wife's Honda, so thinking I'll simply tell her to park outside with the keys sitting in plain view. Perhaps even take a flash light to shine on them, and maybe even put a sign up in the yard to advertise it. Insurance will give me much more than the dealership.
Put a flesh light in it too. Every incentive helps

Also found a set of car keys that are to a different car.

Should I send an invoice to the police dept?

We’re usually Honda/Toyota people and I don’t buy extended warranty but I think that’s a good play here. Saw you can find them for around 4k I think.
When I bought my Honda they could not stop talking about how reliable they are, I went to the finance office and was pretty much told I needed to buy an extended warranty because the cars are pieces of shit.

Update

1. The found the pilot in the projects with tags off of it. IT was towed to the impound lot. Waiting to get there today at lunch to take a look. If I get a free block of meth/fentanyl/crack in the tire well I'll come back here to ask how to sell it.

2. Car shopping over weekend was a disaster. I drove a Pilot, Highlander, Lexus GX, Volvo XC90, Acura MDX amongst others. I hate car shopping.
We have the ‘Lexus GX and love it but with the third row in there is very little back cargo space

100% true.

I dropped it off at dealer and left it and my wife and youngest met us there.

I explained to the service tech what was up and then when I was done my five year old said really loudly told the tech as an add on….”AND THEY WERE DOING LOTS OF DRUGS IN THE CAR!!!”
You will probably get your car back cleaner than the day it was stolen and be told that no drugs were found.

I liked the XC90 too. I would probably go with an extended warranty if I go that route.
It's been years but back when I was looking at Volvo was for the XC series and I discovered you can save an insane amount of money by getting a certified pre-owned plus they had an extended warranty as part of the deal. I couldn't believe how badly Volvo depreciate. Maybe that's changed now as this was about a decade ago.

No. Extended service contracts are never the answer unless they are free.

I own a very successful extended service contract company. If a person has the money/discipline to put the money they'd spend on a service contract in a slush fund each month, they are far better off than buying a service contract.

Think about it: A service contract company has to bring in more money from selling them than they pay out in claims. What makes you think that you will be the minority who beats them? A good service contract company will profit $.30 from every dollar of service contract it sells.

Service contracts/extended warranties are for morons or for people who don't have the savings to pay for a $3000 fix.

^^I haven't seen a post I agree with this much in a long time 💯

What I've seen people go through when trying to make claims was more than enough to keep me from fooling with buying one.

That’s the way I had felt.

I just started second guessing it on a higher end vehicle like a Volvo. The way their value drops like a rock after warranty out made me nervous.

Good info though.

I don’t get extended service contracts on ANYTHING. From cars to refrigerators, I have never had good luck having the company live up to the contract.

The last warranty I had was for a new water heater. The tag they put on the side of the unit stated: “If for any reason this unit fails, and you call the above number before 10 am EST, a new unit will be installed by the end of the day.”

Unit failed, I called, and the representative said, “We will have your unit in four days.” I reminded her I had a special warranty for same day replacement.

All she would keep saying was, “You live in the country.”

Just checked and found that CPO Volvo come with a 5 year, unlimited mileage warranty through Volvo. The warranty is upgradable to 10 years with unlimited mileage. May not be a bad route. You could buy a year old CPO XC90 with get low mileage and save a ton of money.

Warranties offered through the car manufacturer are also a bit of a gamble, depending on the fine print, but arguably far better and more worthwhile in comparison to 3rd party companies.

We might do that one but I’m seeing online Lexus might release a 2024 TX (3rd row SUV to rival the Acura MDX).
Carl, I’m not sure I would be discussing my next auto purchase here. If any of the thieves who took your car read this forum, you might be advertising their next vehicle. 😁

So YOU’RE the one that’s been calling everybody on the planet about their extended warranty. Why does this not surprise me.

“If you don’t purchase our extended warranty, we will be forced to post pictures of your mother”. 🤣

When I purchased my last vehicle, the salesman pressured me to get the extended warranty. To emphasize his point, he waved toward the vehicle computer screen and said, “To replace this screen alone would be around $5,000..

I asked him if the screen was covered under the regular warranty. He replied, “Yes, sir. All parts are covered for three years.

I said to him, “Three years? I’ll have a new vehicle long before that.”

I KNOW.

I LOVE it, but one major flaw.....

No touch screen. The mouse-pad thing on the Acura was a huge turn off and really clunky. I need to give the CX-9 a shot.

I want to drive that one badly though. I bet that will be a great vehicle for us.
I have come to prefer twirling that knob (insert gay jokes, everyone) over a touchscreen. It seems like I can keep my eyes on the road better. I do not think I would like the mouse pad thing.

Is that the best play here? My wife is an attorney, I can throw that out.

A new Pilot is 52-55k

From my internet research I’m thinking they’ll offer me only $25k for a 2019 Pilot with 45k miles if it is deemed a “total loss.”

Im going to see what mechanic says .
Your wife is an attorney? Dear God, man. Seriously, Doc? Wow, first of all sick her the insurance people.

I hope before you got married you hired an attorney and got a pre-nup?

Gross as hell. It’s fermented tea. And tastes like it.

I’m not seeing it regularly on the liquor store shelf anymore so the long national kombucha nightmare may be ending.
