I think we need to hit that transfer portal HARD at EVERY more than anyone else at every available opportunity so long as an upgrade is there.
Since you asked, you should STFU about previous coaches. We adults are having a discussion about the current coach. Some have one opinion, some others, some are extreme, some more moderate. All are legitimate and all add to the discussion. How should I revise the 7 out of 11 years Doc was here.
Wow. Internet tough guy alert.Since you asked, you should STFU about previous coaches. We adults are having a discussion about the current coach. Some have one opinion, some others, some are extreme, some more moderate. All are legitimate and all add to the discussion.
Your opinion, which can pretty much be summed as as “Doc….” Adds nothing. It is not relevant to the discussion of this coach, and this team’s gross underperformance this year.
So keep it to yourself. Its childish, and childish comments don’t further adult discussion.
No, we shouldn’t fire a coach after one year. We do need to be realistic about where we are, however. This team grossly underperformed this year. Grossly.
We need to be better fans. Thoughtful, realistic, and honest.
Making dumb statements like “we control our own destiny”, which was only true if you thought this team was suddenly going to start winning games vs teams with a pulse in week 12; “well we won 7 games” (opponents records 3-8, I-AA 6-5, 6-6, 6-6, 1-11, and 5-7) when pretty much anyone would have beaten those cupcakes; and “I heard from my cousin’s beautician’s bus driver that he was going to Virginia Tech”, when no major program is going to hire some guy who went 7-5 against a weak schedule. Such stupidity is WVU-fan like. We used to be better than that.
We also need to stop with the excuse making. Chief excuse being the previous coach. But others as well (small, facilities, money, no one comes to games, whatever).
When you first become realistic, and then stop excuse making, Leadership needs to have a frank and honest discussion and review of the season with it made clear that this year’s result is not enough, and that if marked improvement is not shown next year, with a return to our dominant form shortly thereafter, the seat will be very warm very quickly. 7-5 is not acceptable.
Only if you thought the team had a chance of actually winning.MAKING STATEMENTS LIKE WE CONTROL OUR OWN DESTINY WAS 100% TRUE AT THE TIME YOU DULLARD
Only if you thought the team had a chance of actually winning.
“We control our out destiny” is an intermediate step bad fans use after a team loses its first important game, because THEORETICALLY it could win out.
So could everyone at some point in the season. It is a throw away line and pointless. It is a truism.
Did we “control our own destiny” at a point this season. Yes, but we were totally controlled on the field by better teams.
You did see it, right?so we had no chance to win Saturday going into the game. 0% chance? The game was decided beforehand?
Sammy is a loser. It's best if he does move on to basketball, because about 90% of what he predicts in football ends up being hilariously wrong. He gave us no chance to beat UNT or UNCC. Made incorrect predictions about coaching changes, mocked and downplayed new hires in CUSA that ended up beating us easily (kiffin). Fondled Doc's package despite only having 4 of 11 years better than this one. The list is endless.so we had no chance to win Saturday going into the game. 0% chance? The game was decided beforehand?
Do you realize how fricking boring these manufactured threads are, count me as unimpressed.Agree. Like recognizing the two previous seasons were 8-5 and 7-3 with a complete meltdown and quitting to end the year last season.
Yet...here you are.Do you realize how fricking boring these manufactured threads are, count me as unimpressed.
How did we not? We were playing to be in a championship. How did “we control our own destiny” turn out for ya?
How did that turn out?How did we not? We were playing to be in a championship.
Were we not playing to be in a championship game? How did that turn out?
Actually, if the list is “endless”, then why do you have to make things up to finish even one paragraph.
But that was never the discussion. You shift goal posts and argue straw men more than any poster here. You stated we didn’t control our own destiny, we did because win and we are in is the definition of controlling your own destiny. Then it was well we didn’t do it well, no one has argued we played well on Saturday but that’s your go to argument when you’ve been proven wrong time and again. I honestly think you are nothing more than a pathetic attempt at a troll. Not well.
Don't get Samson started on bball. He hates the roundball more than he hates the oblong one.Sammy is a loser. The team that completely imploded last year had 5 NFL caliber (not all draft… but roster-ish caliber) guys that are no longer on the team (Ball, Knox, Beckett, Maddon, Hodge). This team was experienced at nearly all positions, but much of that experience had hit its ceiling for progression.
This year fit right in with the prior 4 seasons. That’s really not unexpected.
Huff was unable to secure an immediate QB for depth for this season. He inherited a bare room at that position. That is the very problem the prior staff had. We hit big on two QB’s (Cato and Frohnapfel), but sadly we hit them at the exact same time. Litton was not a miss, but he did not develop as well as everyone would have liked for whatever reason.
Wells recovered pretty well from those last three games last season. He made mistakes, absolutely, but whatever happened last season imploded the entire offense.
Remember, Ali was number 5 on the depth chart last season. He would have been number 3 this season at the beginning of the season under the old staff.
We need more skill guys but frankly, we need help everywhere. Doc got the program stabilized but it’s still not complete. Hopefully Huff can build that depth quickly.
I like Coach Huff, and I want him to succeed big here. There were signs throughout the year that maybe we’re not far away, but yesterday proved how thin we are and have been at key positions.
I suspect as long as Huff is here, we will do pretty well within the transfer portal. He has tons of connections to kids that our prior staff did not. Those direct connections from prior stops will last another 2-3 years with Huff before they cycle out, so we will see what happens.
I hope we can develop the entire QB room quickly in the Spring/Summer. There are snaps to be had there.
I don't see the SBC surviving on a financial basis. Mostly it is just teams that figured out that you can lose big $$ by being good in I-AA. Playing in out-of-the-way towns in the dark dark dark shadow of the Southeastern Conference. As TV deals expire, I do not know that much of this league has a financial plan to really make it work.
As to the SBC vs. CUSA, I would like to see the two leagues remastered via geography. As the TV money dries up, that may happen.
While doing some research, I found this gem from 2018:
Another mark in the L column.
