I will word it this way not to offend one of the Here's greatest. The coach of the Houston Rockets has a style that is ruining the game I love. It's a style that's throws out,,..the backdoor cut,,.,the pick and roll,..the hook,,,the fifteen ft bankshot. A bankshot from anywhere. Tip ins don't exist. Shooting three's the ball kicks way off the goal. Just shoot three's and play defense some of the time. Fast breaks where they pull up to shoot a 3 they only hit 28% of off fast breaks. It's a scheme used to surprise a team that turned into a style used by some teams as the only way. Did you all see the shot that won the game for the Toronto. Deep shot from the corner. A shot even Dan calls the best shot in the game. Now that's hogwash. Kids now don't work on fundamentals they shoot three's unless they have a real coach. Sometimes with younger teams the 3 is the worst shot possible unless your down 3 with seconds to go. Sure I know sports like music evolves. But not doing away with all that made the game great. You can't use the pro's as a model for younger players and coaches on how to play. Only what 1 in 400 will ever play in the pro's. Wow still can't get over that shot Leonard made at the buzzer,, a shooter's bounce.

I agree with some of what you say. I would like to see calls made regarding "old school" (if you will) walking, 3-seconds, overhanding, hanging on the basket, pushing & shoving, etc. Now that would be some of my desire for todays game.

I guess we are watching different things. Marshall uses a back door frequently. Did you not see all the all oops from the back side over the past 5 years. Ajdin made a living with the pick and roll.
With the talent we now and coming in, you will see even more alley oops and pick and rolls.

It looks different from when guys wore nut huggers and didn't take a shot more than 15ft from the basket. I challenge anyone to show me better defense than what was played vs Steph/Draymond in the last 3:00 of that game & what they'd do differently. They're just that good. And the sets Golden State ran were as fundamental as basketball gets. That's why Golden State is so damn good. Passing, cutting, ball handling, ball movement, and shooting. They're unbelievable fundamentally.

Watch the Warriors... that's the style of play D'Antoni prefers. It just so happens that he has one of the best iso 1-on-1 players to ever play the game (and it can be ugly to watch), so he's not running his system, he's running something that lets his best player thrive.

The Suns from his time there are a MUCH more accurate representation of the style he prefers to coach. I give him credit for playing the personnel he has as best he can. There's no doubt in my mind the Rockets are as good as they can be with their present roster makeup.

Herdmeister I was not thinking of Marshall. Golden State has the two best shooting guards ever and the best shooter ever. Not talking about shorts. Basketball is alive and well. I love the NBA. Most on here have said they hate it so don't chime in.Some great defense is played in the NBA. The 76ers should fire their coach. He is horrible. Rockets need changes .I watched 100 games this winter and love following Kentucky players in the NBA.

They are better without Durant in alot of ways. Durant is so good that the rest of the warriors kind of doubt their shot at times and question where is the 7 foot freak' let's get him the ball. Their record is better when Durant was out. Remember the warriors best season ever Durant is a luxury. The best player ever if he can make a winner in New York. Nobody outside Oakland liked Durant going to golden State He went from nice guy to jerk. Took the easy way. Bird didn't join the Lakers after Boston lost to La in the finals. Greedy players

It's true. Kevin Durant messes their chemistry, ball movement, cutting, etc up. Not saying they aren't good with him, because they are (largely due to Curry & Thompson not having huge egos and taking a backseat to him). But they play better team basketball without him. Durant could be such a good player off the ball, but he demands it too much. Same with Harden. These guys don't understand the value of spacing and how much they can affect the game when the ball is out of their hands.

Same concept applied to Moss in football. Even if the ball wasn't going to him, he could still open up so much for everyone else because the defense had to respect his ability to go over the top on any given play.

Speaking of coaches that can’t quite get to the top John Beilein is leaving UM for the Cavs. Somebody check on the alcoholic from K-zoo.

I stopped watching the NBA consistently years ago. Don't really miss it at all. I honestly don't know a lot of people that do watch it consistently. It is a big market city sport that is out of touch with most of America.

A long time ago I stopped looking at the NBA the way the game was played in the 60’s and 70’s when I played competitively. The game is different, rules are interpreted differently, but it’s a great product with the best athletes on the planet.
Don’t worry about the salaries, the soap opera cable tv drama, just watch to appreciate the artistry.

Oh, I understand the talent at the highest level. I find it to be quite boring though. I will catch a playoff game or finals game periodically, but other than that there are too many other options for entertainment. Throw in their dram and politicization and I can just not watch it.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

“”A big market city sport that is out of touch with most of America.” What are you saying exactly about the NBA? All professional sports are played in big cities and are still followed in most of America...

Really? NBA as compared to football? Baseball? I disagree. Yes, they are in big cities, but the NBA is followed more in the big markets. Football is a universal american sport. The NBA is not. In other words people in rural America will watch the NFL(not counting the recent NFL fiasco with the anthem). They don't turn on the NBA. The NBA is out of touch with most of America.

You repeated your original vague statement without clarifying... so what makes it “out of touch” with you and rural America?

the game itself. the rules.Too many games. College is much better and there are teams in most states, etc. College fits much better.

Been reading/hearing a lot about this. It’s a sad day for college basketball when the games’ best teacher feels he can better teach in the NBA.

Other than where Mike is coaching, I no longer follow pro basketball that much. College is much more spirited. Not so in Lexington, where it is more of a pro atmosphere -- if they don't win the NCAA, they think they've had a bad season...
