The college don't control this. The money isn't coming from the school so no one is cutting a class to pay for a QB. The NCAA would have to rule that players can no longer profit from their own name and image. That isn't happening. The NCAA is about dead. There will come a day when the majority of colleges will revert back to educational scholarships only for students playing college sports. Paying a star college quarterback millions while the school is cutting the English and science departments is not sustainable. And it is not what college was designed to be.
But they should. Colleges are educational institutions, not the minor leagues for pro sports. Without the college facilities, the infrastructure, the team name, no player has a Name, an Image, or a Likeness. The college don't control this.
That’s just not correct. It is redirecting dollars that donors previously gave to other things. If I give $10,000 a year to the Big Green and $5,000 to the foundation, and am asked to give $5,000 for NIL, I’m getting that money by cutting those other contributions. The college don't control this. The money isn't coming from the school so no one is cutting a class to pay for a QB. The NCAA would have to rule that players can no longer profit from their own name and image. That isn't happening. Where we're headed is a split again in the FBS where the top school break off and form a minor league and the rest of us do our own thing or drop back to the FCS.
