Thought police strike again?

what are everyone's thoughts on the google memo situation? If you aren't sure what I'm talking about an e hinder penned a memo saying basically that men and women are different and that's why women don't Pursue jobs in STEM at a higher rate.

Google fired him for violating code of conduct.

Not worth commenting on. In today's society if someone happens to agree with several points the writer was making, the cat calls of sexist bigot will be rained down from on high. The discussion will be shut down, just as Google eagerly moved to do in his firing.

When Brandon Eich was forced to resign, it showed just how intolerant the tech sector actually is. Not only did Eich actually help minorities in his workplace, there was literally no one who had a problem with him. But because he held a view on gay marriage they didn't agree with, he was forced out. Never mind there is zero proof he ever brought his views into the work place or ever discriminated against employees, the snowflakes couldn't control his thoughts & he had to go.

The left doesn't want to engage in honest debate because it's just easier to start screaming over top of ideas that gives them the bad feelz & demand someone be fired. They're trigglypuffs.

You're confusing California lefts with the rest of the country.

California is a racist state unless you are a fairy, non-threatening, Asian and not from the middle or lower class.
 
You talk about Civil Rights and the left goes silent unless Gay Rights are included in the demands. Then they come out in droves
 
Thought police my ass. Believe what you wish, but watch what you say at work. That goes for any job, any where. I'd know better than to distribute that memo at Google, same as I would know better than to join the NAACP if I worked at Jim Bob's Towing and Salvage Yard.

While I agree, let's not pretend this is exclusively a left issue. The right gets super offended too.

War on Christmas? Really? And when Starbucks decided to go with plain red cups instead of ones that had Santa, snowmen, and snow flakes, the right lost their minds. Colin Kaepernick decides to take a knee for the national anthem and the right suddenly decides they can't watch football anymore. I work with a hardcore right winger (military guy) who has trouble working with a female because she had children out of wedlock and has tattoos.


Whether it's a left or right issue, I see our country as a whole not wanting to step out of any kind of comfort zone and discuss differing ideas. I don't see it as a left/right issue. People need to open their minds to the possibility of being wrong. We could all learn a hell of a lot more from one another.

War on Christmas? How effective is that? I saw Christmas stuff in September last year. And effing nobody actually gives a shit about Starbucks' cups - it was faux-outrage. If you can't figure that one out, then you're exactly the target audience that "outrage" was targeted toward.
And it's not just the right that's angry with Kaepernick, although that's an easy assumption to jump to if you're not actually paying attention. Wearing a Castro t-shirt doesn't just anger right-leaning Cuban Americans in Florida. Does your coworker still do his job even though they don't agree with someone or does he demand she be fired? Guess which side has a reputation for doing that?

That was a well written, well supported document. With that said, yeah, speaking those truths will get you fired from a tech company.

Its shows ignorance and zero sympathy for those guys victims. Why does every city have a run down black ghetto. Are blacks the only group in america that cant move? Should have taken Lincolns plan to go back to africa. I mean the united states did make them slaves and I have never heard anything good about black folk and their love for america. They love africa. Yep should have taken lincolns offer of a free ride to africa and money.

The post was made on a private google message board designed for employees to discuss policy management etc. he didn't just rattle off an email and cc the entire company.
I agree you need to not get in to to many political/social discussions at work but it was made in a "safe space" designed for that exact type of thing

This is exactly right. Google created the environment to share thoughts, ideas, and concerns. My guess is this engineer will get some type of undisclosed settlement payment for wrongful termination and move on.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm not sure he'll win any lawsuit. I'm not aware of any underlying right you have to have no consequences for your free speech, so if your employer thinks your speech is hazardous to employee morale, I guess they can fire you?

What this does show, is that even measured, reasonable, even potentially scientifically based opinions that differ from that of Google will not be tolerated and rather than address the concerns with counter points you will simply be labeled a *insert racist, sexist, homophobe, bigot etc.*

Private meaning not available to the general public. It was solely for google employees to express their ideas. I'm not saying he was smart to do it and he shouldn't face consequences if he broke policy. I'm not sure he broke any policy by posting on the message board

I'm not aware of a big groundswell of support for removing women's right to vote in 2017.

Both sides have problems on this issue (as pointed out in the memo).

Sarcasm fever. Nothing but sarcasm. Cutting on the brothers. People white and black "more white" are too poor to move anywhere. Kinda trapped.I hope the apartments in the Hood are nice. I have no idea. Black folk have influenced America in a great way. Young white kids want to be like black kids. The way they talk the way dress and the music they listen too. I thought obama represented the United States with alot of class. Being black now is dope.

Extra, the gender pay gap all but disappears when you compare men and women with the exact same job experience education etc

Freedom is rarely killed off by people chanting “Down with Freedom!” It is killed off by people claiming that the greater good/the general will/the community/the proletariat requires “examination of the parameters” (or some such cant phrase) of individual liberty.
