rory has said he plans to stick with nike, especially balls, for awhile. apparently for the safeway open tiger is going to hit a taylormade driver, mizuno irons, and use bridgestone balls. the taylormade driver is odd to me, but the rest i get...

Actually I only question the ball......The Nike ball was designed specifically for Tiger based on his specifications. Although his current game may no longer fit that ball.

The Nike driver sucks.....So Taylormade is a no brainer.......Mizuno irons too. I assume he'll be using a Scotty putter?

from what i've read, bridgestone and nike balls were made at the same facility in atlanta and are very similar.

yeah, i'm guessing whatever other equipment deal he signs, he'll use a scotty putter.

edit: i've also seen a lot of people talking about he'll just end up with whomever offers him the biggest check. i don't think so, at all. he has plenty of money and nike is going to continue paying him a ton to wear their gear, he'll go with the equipment he thinks will best help him win, regardless of how much they pay.

Nike doesn't care about clubs anymore. It was a losing proposition. Tiger will stay with Nike apparel and shoes. He is a big face for Nike. The clubs don't matter to them. It is all about the swoosh on the clothes.

He is not going away from Nike. He is just not playing Nike clubs at some point because Nike is out of the club making business and ball business.

They don't make tennis rackets but look at the Nike stars wearing Nike in tennis. Same deal.

right, but rory has years worth of nike equipment he got them to stock up for him because he liked using it. rory is still using everything nike at the ryder cup, minus his scotty flatstick. tiger bolted almost immediately.

edit to add: so did koepka, he was hitting a taylormade driver at the ryder cup.

So what is the big deal? Nike has announced they are not going to make golf clubs anymore.

just interesting that he ditched their equipment already, all of it, and is basically coming back on tour and trying out random other equipment.

that's quite out of date, considering those aren't things he used when last playing at wnydham:

Equipment is accurate as of The Wyndham Championship (8/22/15).

Driver: Nike Vapor Speed Prototype
Shaft: Matrix Ozik TP7HDe 78X

3 Wood: Nike Vapor Speed (15 degrees)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana Blue Board 103X

Irons: Nike VRS Forged (2), Nike Vapor Pro Blades (3-PW)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100

Wedges: Nike VR Forged X3X (56 and 60 degrees)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Golf Tour Issue S400

Putter: Nike Method 001

Golf Ball: 2014 Nike RZN Black

i honestly thought he'd use Miura or PXG irons, and he still may end up doing so.

Sorta related since you mentioned PXG equipment... I looked into PXG as I am thinking of updating my Ping equipment.

You have to fly to Arizona for at least 3 days, go through all kinds of testing, have playing sessions... Cost for the grand version.. $25,000.. Least cost for a shorter visit is $7,000.. Obviously I went with the Pings.

Supposedly PGX is some top people from Ping that broke away and started this company

haha, yeah. i remember seeing/hearing a bob parsons quote, something like "if you don't make at least $150,000 a year you should buy your clubs from someone else."

do you like your pings?

Yeah I like em... I have always played with Pings.. I am a 12 so not really good enough to know the difference. Except I wasn't gonna pay for the PXG clubs.

Its not the club you're swingin its who's swingin the club.

Word. I use to get a kick out of my softball parents asking me which new $350 bat they should buy their 12 year old daughter. I was tempted to tell them to use a stick until their daughter could actually put the bat within a foot of the ball. The best technology in the world can't help a whiff.

I play with titleist clubs, Oddyssy Putter, and Taylor Made driver. None of it is high end. Let's say I squeaked a stroke out better technology. I'm sure the world would take little notice when I went from an 88 to an 87 at Sugarwood.

I really hope Tiger can come back.. No doubt in my mind when he was at his peak he was the best golfer ever.

i had old tommy armour 845s, bought right from the store. last year i went to a demo day at a club and tried out new irons from all the major companies. the biggest difference is i got fitted for irons this time. being 6'4" changes a lot about my swing because most clubs are built obviously for a range of average.

i'd recommend everyone next time they buy clubs to find a local fitter and get fitted then order irons. if you can find a demo day they usually do the fitting free and you can hit whatever (i hit nike pro combos, titleist ap1, mizuno jpx-850, ping g30, and the callaway xr irons).

^^^ I'm 6'-4 1/2" so definitely get fitted no matter how much or little you spend.

I just bought a titlelist 3 hybrid that was in demo bag at Dicks.I bought it right before playing a round. It was regularly $250 but I got it for $125. You couldn't tell it had been hit. I bought a dozen golf balls with it. When I got to the course I glanced at my receipt and I noticed I was only charged for the balls. I thought maybe they rang it up separate because it was demo and didn't give me receipt. So I waited a few days and checked my account to see if it hit. Nope...was only charged for the balls. Against the advice of a few friends I took it back and explained what happened and paid for it. Given the fact that I rolled the ball both times I used it I probably should of just stuck it back with the demos. :)

Not trying to be a know-it-all or jerk.......But remember, it's hybrid not a fairway wood. Play it just like an iron......

Try moving the ball back in your stance....You'll even want to take a small divot with the hybrid.

Titleist makes great clubs but they're not the most forgiving....I have the Titleist 4 Hybrid.

Kudos to you for going back to pay!

Thanks for the advice. One of the guys I play with is a decent golfer (shoots mid to high 70s) and he told me the exact same thing. The problem with the Huntington area for golfing is the total lack of a decent driving range. It is just tough to find a place to practice. Esquire tells you just to go down and hit your own balls. Really? Why not lease the driving range to someone to run. Then they'd at least be making something off of it without any additional expenses. It's not like they couldn't use the revenue.

ugh, esquire. with it's layout and length it could rival sugarwood as the best course around, but they just don't put forth the effort anymore...at all.

My buddies and I have had that conversation all the time. You can't find yardage markers. The ball washes seem to always be dry. The course goes to pieces as the summer progresses. But it has a nice layout and more real estate than any course in the area. Silo just can't do much more with the first few holes of the back nine and the rest of the course due to limitations of land. Ed has done an amazing job with Sugarwood moving and reworking tee boxes and greens. I played it last week and it was in very nice shape. It's really a fun course to play. But Esquire...such potential but it's mostly being wasted.
