I haven't changed my mind on DD, but there is a game tonite vs ODU. Some of you may recall our 2 game set during COVID at their place in 2021. In the 1st game, we took a large lead (20 +?) into the early stages of the 2nd half, only to completely melt down & allow them to pull off the comeback. We handled them easily 2 nights later, but the damage was done. This year, we took it on the chin over there, where it was really over at the half. Now, ODU is no world beater, and we are a slight favorite going towards tip off. After the UTEP game, DD stated (about ODU & Coach J Jones) (to the effect of) // they're NOT going to come out past the bigs like UTEP did, so we're going to have to make shots to open up what will most likely be a compact zone defense. // We should be able to win both of these this weekend. We'll see if the kids can string 2-3 together.....

One bid league, so really, all a school really wants to avoid is having to play in one of the 'play-in' conference tournament games.

The goal is pretty simple. As one poster has said a few hundred times before (and is correct), the ultimate goal is to get hot during an eight day stretch. After that, you eventually have to play one of the top 4 seeds in one of the four regional brackets. It all ends then, but at least you can remember the time your team got hot during an eight day stretch in March.

There are currently two teams from “one bid leagues” ranked in the Top 25, and five more are listed under “others receiving votes”.

Because they played serious non-conference schedules, and then grabbed their weak conference by the throat and dominated it.

But we have DD.

Fire DD.

CUSA champ generally beats that Top 4 regional seed, so now, it doesn’t “all end then.” It actually ends in the second round usually against the 6/7/8/9 seed in the region.

Since the last realignment:

21 North Texas - 13th - won a game
20
19 Old Dominion - 14th - didn’t
18 MU - 13th - won a game
17 Middle -12th - won a game
16 Middle - 15th - won a game
15 UAB - 14th - won a game

By contrast:

21 - Appy St. - lost play in game for 16th seed
20
19 - GA St. 14th didn’t
18 - GA St. 15th didn’t
17 - Troy 15th didn’t
16 - UALR 12th - won a game
15 - GA St. 14th - won a game

If anything basketball is getting slightly easier.

Of course, we have DD.

Only 7 turnovers. Proud of them. Go get another Sat nite….Byers drives me nuts!
Odd fact: UTSA beats USM by 19…….. in OT!! Don’t think I’ve seen that before.

glad you guys went nuts because we likely don't win without byers and the team has been playing better as his playing time has increased.

Some of his passes! The one he launched that put Kinsey in the bleachers & even the one on that last inbounds play. I will say this: kids got quite an arm! Team is playing better. Hopefully they can get some payback tom nite vs Charlotte - also no world beater!!

no doubt he makes some TOs and high risk passes. he does play more like a guard than our other bigs. i think some of those TOs are just things we have to live with because we are better with him. he's a different kind of player and his mistakes really stick out, it's almost in style for herdfans to criticize or rip him now. I don't like the TOs either or the constant whining about most any call, but I do want him to get 20-30 minutes a game and our team is better for it.

contrast that to the fans reaction to TK .....<20% 3 point shooter but shoots more of them than the rest of the team yesterday going like 1-6. his TOs are more subtle than some of Byers but I am getting really tired of the ball stopping while he dribbles, then he gets to about 12-15 feet out from basket, turns his back to basket, the defense collapses and he either turns it over or tries a turn around jumper over 2-3 defenders. that is old but it seems to be fine with most of the fan base. maybe TK has earned the free pass more than Byers over the years but TK's play has been a big part of our offensive dysfunction this year.
