That's too bad... I hope he figures out his next step in life.

The good news for the team is RB is one of, if not the deepest, positions on the roster. And all of the guys we have at RB are young...

Brendan Knox - RS Sophomore
Sheldon Evans - RS Sophomore
Joseph Early - Junior
Jalynn Sykes - RS Freshman
Lawrence Papillon - RS Freshman
Knowledge McDaniel - Freshman
Cedrick Wilcox - Freshman

It's going to open up some carries for somebody other than Knox... Sheldon Evans looked pretty good against VMI and Jalynn Sykes was a hotly-recruited back coming out of GA in high school.

Maybe I'm too hopeful, but I remember that last year, the best HB on the team sat out the first 8 games of the season without a single carry in any of the games we played. Who knows, one of these underclassmen might be the next Barry Sanders, and we just don't know it because Doc hates playing newcomers at that position.

Tron Martinez's fumble really f'd him in the head.

Wow. That was quick. Gets back Sat. am and roughly 50 some hours later is booted. Next man up.

Mid Majors take chances on players the big schools pass on because the big boys have so many more to choose from in recruiting.

That's why some "really good" players don't always make it at our level.

To be clear, I'm not saying it wasn't deserved, I have no idea what happened. I was just surprised by the "oh well" take on it. It's like people forgot this guy was in beast mode when he got his chance to be a true RB1 last year before he got hurt.

I'm with you on this, but I do think we are all getting used to this bullshit with Doc and his troubled recruits.

Every year it's something with Doc and his team which creates an excuse for us not winning this godawful conference.

mlblack16 what makes you think this team can win this “godawful conference” this year? Serious question.

I never meant to imply they could. But if they were to have a solid chance, this is the year, considering how badly everyone is playing right now.

Surprises me that everyone is so nonchalant about this. King is a very good back.
I think king ran hard but I believe his ball security has always been an issue. I think RB is one position we're so deep, its just next man up! Did he go back into the Boise game after he fumbled?

That’s because it’s become almost the exception that our best players make it 4 years with the team.

Which is pretty troubling considering we haven’t had a single draft pick in 4 years.

Most of our better players or higher rated ones are NQ's that couldn't get into their first choices of schools. Marshall is always plan B. Most don't have the warm and fuzzies about Marshall that maybe a 2 star or less would. Sorta like taking the pudgy flag corp girl to Prom when you really wanted the captain of the Cheerleaders.

It's an attitude and an issue these kids have. They've been coddled and when things get rough, they act out and don't know how to handle it.

Always said I'd rather have a team of hard working, smart 2 stars then prima donna 3-4 stars that continually cause trouble or are cancers. jmho.

It was my understanding that his disappearance from the roster late last year wasn't just his injury against FAU. He was apparently ready to go a few weeks after, but was held off the field because of disciplinary issues.

What bothers me more than anything is the way the coaching staff evaluates that position. We spent the first 2-3 games of last season with South Dakota's backup kick returner Trey Rodriguez as our HB1. Then nine games into the season, we roll out the best HB on the team (Knox) like we had no idea he could have helped us. I try to avoid thinking about the fact that Knox was on the bench for the MTSU game.

I think the reason for the lack of the usual reaction is because while he was a pretty good player we have plenty of talented RBs behind him. We all know Knox is a stud. Evans and Papillion have shown flashes. Behind them is Knowledge McDaniel that was recruited by a host of top programs like Ohio State. Behind him is 3-star Sykes that the staff was really high on in camp.

It sucks to lose a player like King, but RB is the position we can afford it. Outside of 2016 it really is next man up at the RB position. I mean go back to when Devon Johnson was thrust into the starting position. We all worried then. We'll be fine. Now if it were anywhere else I'd be worried.

So true. And maybe there's always a logical excuse for when this happens, but Doc's deliberate lack of transparency makes him look like a boob.

Honestly man. What do you expect Doc or the university to do. Do you expect them to get in front of a podium and say "we booted Tyler King because he ________ ." That doesn't happen anywhere in college football or any other sport. Especially with the rumors floating around Doc or Marshall really can't directly comment.

Dude, you've got to quit speed reading through posts. I quoted herdalicious talking about how Knox was kept on the bench and then when they finally let him play he's the way better than the players we had been using.

You at lunch with Coach Stowers and Aaron right now or something?

In what way?

Kirby Smart at UGA is insanely private. Scott Frost at Nebraska doesn't allow any media/fans at their entire pre-season. Dana Holgersen didn't allow any media at their practices last year, and I expect it's the same at Houston. This stuff goes on everywhere.

There was something going around about him having boosted a car in Putnam Co, but who knows if that has any merit?

Only 36 of 127 (28.3%) HS/Prep level recruits from the 2010-2018 recruiting classes that were rated 3-stars or higher were NQs and 18 of those 36 were in the program for at least 4 years. The NQ program is not really an issue, but we had some classes from 2012-2015 that had very high attrition rates. There were some very good players from those classes, but there were a ton of busts among the higher rated recruits and even the 2-stars. Attrition rates look better for the last few classes, but we seem to take fewer risks in recruiting as well.
