WELL only down 3-0 in first quarter but good grief UCF's qb cant hit the wide side of a barn door. UCF's defense is playing very well.

Good post chris. I Im loving their qb now. He made up for bad throws in the first half with his legs. Wow what a throw. This team could have been national champs. Of course that is if they hang on to win. Frost will be a great coach at nebraska. UCF at the ten. Auburn blocks field goal. Long way to go. Go Herd

Since, the guaranteed access bowl started in 2014 with the Football Playoffs. The G5 is 3-1 against the P5. Go Figure!

It’s been impressive, motivation is a huge deal when teams don’t play for a month. Timing and execution suffer so turnovers and wanting it really play a huge role.

Their QB made a hell of a TD run that fired them up. Amazing what a running QB can do to help an offense. Good for them.

Nice win UCF no gimmicks they played good defense and ran their offense. They left at least 13 points on the field as well. The quarterback overthrew a wide open wr which would have been a score and a blocked and missed field goal.

UCF definitely showed they belong. Hopefully that’s us next year!

Need a Open offense and a QB that can run.

Yeah, nice win for them, but no way they belong on same field as OK, UGa, Bama or Clemson. This talk about them deserving a spot in top 4 is over the top. Top 7 or 8 team, but not top 4.

Eye test......watching Rose Bowl and difference in talent and skill is evident.....not slamming ucf (even though i hate them), but this year more than the past the committee got it right

Claiming UCF didn’t belong in the final four is fair but to say they don’t belong on the same field as the teams that did? Not sure I agree with that. Scott Frost is one hell of a coach and guys like McKenzie Milton and Shaq Griffin are electric athletes.

Didn't Auburn beat one of the teams (Georgia?) in the playoffs.

I believe Frost said in a post game interview that 2 years ago or so the Knights were winless. Well, in 2016, MU won THREE games! So no reason, if everything falls into place, that 2018 couldn't be a special season for Herd football!

Shaq Griffin is one of my all-time favorite college players, and I agree Frost is an awesome coach. I just don’t see UCF staying within 17 points of any of the final 4. JMHO

Toes no offense but I don’t understand how you have that opinion. UCF looked like they belonged on the field with Auburn. The same Auburn that beat two of the playoff teams and lost by a fg to Clemson.

UCF didn’t use trick plays to beat Auburn. They lined up ran their regular offense and beat Auburn. UCF also left at least 13 points off the board.

So I just don’t get how you think UCF wouldn’t stay within 17 points of those teams.

Cali, UCF surprised me against Auburn, but every game is about matchups, and imo all 4 playoff teams have more speed and depth than ucf....frost is a great coach, no doubt, but at the end of the day, the playoff teams are better.....if ucf gave up 55 to memphis, the playoff teams would at least match that!

Auburn actually beat 2 of the playoff teams as they beat UGA and BAMA.

Let me ask, would this have been the same result if it were during the regular season?

What would happen if UCF had to play teams like that week in and week out? That is the real question. One game shot they have a great team. Throw them in the SEC and they lose 4 games.

That being said, they played a great game and deserve to be voted in highly at years end. They are way ahead of where Marshall is.

Not to take anything away from UCF, it was a great win for them and all of the G-5's, but i am herd makes some solid points.
Even after the Auburn game Sagarin ranks UCF's strength of schedule at #72. I doubt they would have gone 13-0 if they played 10 or 11 games against P-5 level competition like most of the P-5's do.

Well, here's the thing. UCF may or may not be able to do as well, if they were playing a P5 conference schedule, but who's to say, if they were a member of a P5 conference (with additional resources), they wouldn't have been even better than they already are?

This likely won't be the last time you see a G5 member run the table, and win their big boy bowl game. However, the G5 team will never make it to the final four, which is setup for the P5 only. G5 will never gain admission to the big boy dance. That's the way it's setup to be, and always will be.

Perhaps the Herd will once again run the table, as they did in 1999. But...make no mistake about it, getting the access bowl will be as far as they can possibly go. No shot at a national title. Which begs the question: Why does college football have a setup where 50% of the member institutions have absolutely no shot at winning a title? Think about that, and tell me again why there's no split between the P5 and G5.

Wouldn't you rather support a program that has a shot at a national title, even if it was at a lower level of play, as opposed to going into each and every season knowing that a trip to Boca Raton is as good as it gets?

Nobody has any idea what would happen every week. It’s such a silly argument. Because first of all UCF if they were in that conference they would play many of these teams at home. Not having to play 90% of them on the road.

Second and I keep coming back to this. This wasn’t a case of an inferior team playing a superior team and the superior team doing everything they could to lose. UCF played far from perfect and Auburn played far from bad yet they still won.

UCF ran their regular offense and defense against a SEC team that beat the two teams in the national championship game. Against a top SEC defense they scored 34 points without the aid of trick plays.

If the game is replayed watch it again. UCF looked as big and fast as Auburn. Look I’m not saying that UCF will ever repeat it but in my opinion the 2017 UCF team was one of the best teams in the country and if they would have put them in the playoffs this year I think they could have hung.

Lastly I am not about giving a G5 team a spot in the playoffs out of some kind of fairness BS. But in the case of this year i think this G5 team deserved it. You can’t prove UCF didn’t belong anymore than I can prove they did. Because on the field the conference that you guys get all weak in the knees about when you talk about it has 2 teams in the finals. Auburn beat both of those teams. UCF beat Auburn and UCF was undefeated.

But it’s all a moot point anyway. A G5 will never make the playoffs. The P5 will make sure of that and yes I believe that even if there were 8 teams. I mean look at the SEC this year. They were very mediocre after Alabama Georgia and Auburn. The 4th best SEC team lost to Troy. But to hear people like SamC it’s the greatest conference ever invented and stronger than NFL cnferences. So of course a G5 will never live up to that.

It is not really a silly argument when you see teams with all the resources in the world(Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, etc) losing games. Playing very good teams week in and week certainly will take a toll. I remember after Marshall beat ECU in that classic Mobile Bowl where Byron lead us back, Coach Pruett said if we had to play teams like that every week it would be tough. Well, we found out it was. It takes a toll on you.

If you took UCF's current roster and they played in the SEC they would loose multiple games. I feel confident in saying that. Upsets happen all the time. But, what would happen if UCF had to line up against Georgia next week and then Alabama. Then had a road game at LSU?

Reality is better players and better coaches go to the SEC and other conferences.

On any given day, anyone can beat anyone. Of course UCF wouldn't be undefeated in the SEC, Frost would admit that. But they had a great year and stepped up when they were on the big stage - have to hand that to them. I doubt we'll ever have that chance. No need to belittle another schools accomplishments.

Totally agree...

Case in point? wvu. Spent the majority of their successful years in a "BCS Conference" which anyone would argue, was the weakest of the majors. However, they ran the table each year and won the big BCS games, 3 of them, against teams none of them were favored to beat. People kept saying, especially wvu fans, that they were good enough to be in a major conference...well...now that they've stepped up in competition, it has become increasingly more difficult for them to compete...and this P5 is one of the lower tier ones.

The same could be said for Utah...once they hit the Pac-12, they sorta fell off a little bit. Sure, they were ranked and very tough, but they honestly weren't the same team they once were.
Louisville is somewhat of a toss up. They had a Heisman QB and still weren't as good as they had been while in the AAC...they went 9-4 as their best season in the ACC.

TCU is about the only program who has moved up and has actually been pretty decent, but even they, had some bad seasons as well.
These are state schools, with supposedly the most money to throw around...and TCU didn't have enough of a reputation to get into the CFP despite being more than worthy of a spot.

So to say UCF could hang with these teams, sure, for one week only. But put them in a conference with some actual depth, and they would probably lose 4 games a season.

The team played 11 weeks in a row because of hurricane re-scheduling, and the style of offense keeps the defense on the field...look at what a rested UCF defense did to a team that beat Alabama & Georgia. How is that not qualified to slug it out with anybody? Auburn was basically spotted a half because Milton was so nervous (3 for 15, 30 yards).

Easy, if UCF was playing P5 teams every week (because presumably they would BE in the P5), they would also have the ability to RECRUIT like a P5 school, and have the financial resources a P5 school has. Its the same argument that fans on THIS board make all the time in reference to Marshall moving up.

Please keep in mind that UCF did the same beatdown on a "superior" Baylor team 4 years ago to the day in the Fiesta Bowl, so this is already a repeat.

@UCFKnight85, is it true they're having a national champions parade in Orlando for the Knights?

Yes, as more than one media outlet has proclaimed the Knights as National Champions, as has (as of an hour ago) Donald Trump, who is extending an invitation to the White House. Media groups designated National Champions in this sport for 100 years, so a Dr Pepper trophy doesn't mean squat the way this season played out.

LOL you and the UCF program have officially jumped the shark, Shark.
