UCF

Easy, if UCF was playing P5 teams every week (because presumably they would BE in the P5), they would also have the ability to RECRUIT like a P5 school, and have the financial resources a P5 school has. Its the same argument that fans on THIS board make all the time in reference to Marshall moving up.

That's not what herdman is asking at all. He's asking what would happen if the 2017 UCF Knights, as currently built and funded, competed in a division like the SEC West or Big Ten East.

Well, did the hurricane occur in this make-believe world? Playing 11 straight weeks wore the defense out.....we went from allowing 13 to 55 to Memphis in the two games.

Honestly, its a hypothetical question that can't be answered....the same thing as asking how Marshall would have done this year in THE AMERICAN (LOL....I love that guy). All anyone can do is play the schedule one is given. Sucks that UCF was not able to re-schedule the Georgia Tech game.

Yes, as more than one media outlet has proclaimed the Knights as National Champions, as has (as of an hour ago) Donald Trump, who is extending an invitation to the White House. Media groups designated National Champions in this sport for 100 years, so a Dr Pepper trophy doesn't mean squat the way this season played out.
Thanks so much for confirming what I thought I had heard. You may not know it, but I'm getting up there in years, and will turn 58 this March. Not really old, but old nonetheless, as I like to go to bed nowadays around 8 o'clock in the evening. Granted, I usually don't nod off until 9, as I like to watch one of those true crime shows on the ID channel once in bed. I had been debating whether or not to stay up late and watch the title game this coming Monday, but since UCF has already won the title, I'll just keep my normal routine and go to bed again at 8 o'clock.

LOL you and the UCF program have officially jumped the shark, Shark.

Unfortunate that you feel this way....this type of controversy can help all G5 teams. 3 of the past 4 years, the G5 team has beaten the "mighty" P5 team. Even the 4th year had a close score. Why is the "playoff" limited to just 4 teams, with half the teams in the country essentially excluded? Why do the G5 teams 95% of the time have to play at the P5 stadium? Why does WVU always duck Marshall? That should be a yearly rivalry game. The fix has been in for a long time. Why not shine some light on it and watch the P5 cockroaches scatter?

This year ended up with a unique outcome because UCF was the ONLY undefeated team AND it beat the hand-picked opponent that had beaten both semi-final teams. If Clemson had gone undefeated and beat Alabama and Georgia, UCF would have no claim to the National Championship. The committee screwed up, they did not figure on all the dominos falling this way.

Shark, this football setup is playing out just as they intended it to be, better known as the ESPN/P5 money grab. As I stated earlier in the thread, this is the only sport I can think of where 50% of the teams are automatically excluded from competing for a national title prior to the season kicking off.

Aww come on, you know you want to sit through dozens of Dr Pepper commercials (still can't believe the cheerleader caught that ball) and handing out the plastic trophy to the SEC champion (hope Alabama wins and creates more chaos, as a "national" champion that didn't even qualify to play in their conference championship).

UCF this one year, like Boise State a few years ago, and Marshall a few years before that, and many others back through time, are nice stories. But in the real world, there are mid-majors and true majors, and the number of teams that have moved from mid-major to true major and been anymore than a field filler you can count on one hand.

Turns out the Trump thing wasn't true, just wanted to make the correction.

Soooooooo, Abalama isn't even good enough to win their conference, which should be requirement number 1 to be a playoff participant. In fact, the low Tides didn't even QUALIFY for their conference's championship game. So, in fact, they are REWARDED by getting an extra week off, to heal, rest up, practice, etc., while Georgia was playing for the SEC title. Now here those Tides are in the playoff championship game, having benefitted by not even being the best or second best in their league, rendering the SEC regular season essentially a meaningless farce, and, in essence, gaining a bye into the playoffs. Current playoff format/process is a BIG TIME FARCE AND JOKE!!!

I agree that I was disappointed that Bama was selected when they didn't even qualify for their conference championship but I suspect they'll win the whole enchilada next werk.

The G5 schools signed off on the College Football Playoff System so there's no point in complaining about it now.

I'm pretty sure the G5 schools were misled by the level of exclusion from the "playoff". No group of schools in their right mind would agree to that.

No misleading at all.

BCS era: 'You might get a bowl game if you find yourself ranked in the top 12.'

CFP era: 'You are guaranteed to get a New Years bowl game if you are the highest ranked G5 school.'

ucf also forgets, rather willingly, bowl season...which is entirely separate from the regular season.
If we want to really be technical, ucf did not beat an Auburn team who beat Bama.

ucf beat an Auburn team who got demolished by Georgia in the SEC title game...thus eliminating them from playoff contention.
You didn't beat anyone currently in the CFP. You beat a team who beat them in the regular season and lost to them in the title game of the regular.season, thus, why you are playing them to begin with.

Aresco can continue to talk like an arrogant loser and thumb his nose at the G5, but in the end, it doesn't matter.
You can take the American out of the G5 but you can't take the G5 out of the American.

This sort of selective choosing of victory and importance is going to put you on the same level of Tennessee, and you don't want that.
