I have a dumb question. I have never been on a battleship other than the USS North Carolina for a tour. They showed the Marines quarters. What do the Marines do on a battleship? Are they security? That type of ship is not a landing ship or troops transport. So what did they do on the battleship?

Security supposedly but in reality we pt, lift weights, repeat, repeat, repeat. Sometimes an occasional class. We will have a security drill weekly at random which was fun because we destroyed anyone in our path who didn't hit the bulkhead coming through. Then when we port we will train a day or two and the rest of the time we drink and party..
Ship life for us was boring until we hit port
