Valet parking and tipping

There has been quite a bit of discussion about tipping various services on here, mostly relating to restaurants and delivery services.

I'm going to be heading out of town for a few days, and the hotel where I'm staying has valet parking. I'll be there for about a week, and will probably need to take my car out at least once a day.

For those of you that have used valet parking in the past, what do you normally do in regards to tipping the valet?

If it’s a one time deal I’m good for around $5.00 but in your case and I’ve done that as well I’ll throw $2-$3 dollar bills each time. I do a $5.00 for the bell hop on each trip and normally a few bucks for the maids each day.

Agree with Marine on the valet. I give the bellhop $1 per bag, or more for exceptional service. Maids get $3-5 per day depending on cleanliness of room on arrival and each day thereafter.

I think we are all in the ball park...…..in and out daily a couple of bucks each time works, especially when you get the car, I don't always tip as I drop it. $2 a bag for the bell hop.

several years ago at the Pittsburgh Marriot I asked a guy what he normally gets or expects....he was like "just give us something" so he was happy with a buck or two and went on to mention how many times people just thank him and drive away.

I tip a $20 up front. They have my car. I don't want it messed with. Same thing on pick up. Car is 20 or 30 grand(150k for rox and rifle). Treat it nicely and get me a good spot. Don't spin the tires and go through my stuff.

That's kind and generous but....if you are in and out daily you are stiffing the guys who may not have been there for the nice big $20 tip. a good spot? you would not know.

depends on what i'm driving. if it's the wife's new tahoe ltz, i'll flip them a $50 in hopes i get it back with no dents so i don't have to listen to that shit until the next new one i buy her. if it's my silverado ltz 420 hp 6.2L screaming ford eating tire burning sit your ass back in the seat and hold you there beast, i'll tell them to run it like they stole it and the tip is to not get caught and appreciate the opportunity to drive such a fine specimen of a pickup truck.

haha. i think i've had valet once in my life, which was last year in pittsburgh when my son played on PNC field and we stayed at some 5 star joint across the river. and, i actually did tip a $20 because i'm a hillbilly and didn't have a clue in hell what people actually do tip and didn't want to seem like a tight ass.

I don't valet park very often. Rarely. But, when I do, I tip well.

Tipping $20 for a valet, considering standard is $2-$5, would be like tipping a server between $40-$200 on a $50 meal.

Why yes I'm just blowing hot air. I always tip waiters. My wife worries I will give them too much. They can't make a decent living without those tips. I enjoy leaving them a tip.
