VT @ MU line back up to 6….crazy

Lots more value on the board. We know that this is the worst VPI team in 30 years. Much like Marshall, an inept decision to run off the coach that built the program and then replacing him with an incompetent, has caused great, generational, damage. Unclear if the new coach can right things.

This is, from the MU perspective, sad. VPI is a step up game for us, and this would have been a year where we really had a chance to beat them. Still might, we will see. It would be great to have a team that we could have confidence in.

As to betting, stay away from P5 @ G5 where the P5 is the dog.

Are you referring to Pruett to Snyder in your comparison?

Yep.

Here KO, through his dishonesty, ran off our greatest coach and then hired some rando who clearly could not get the job done, and then stuck with him for five long years of damage. Down at VPI, Beamer took a program that kind of bounced around and whose fan base was just the folks in that, rather backwater, part of Virginia and made them a statewide followed deal and competed nationally. They passed over his understudy and hired some guy who had two mediocre years in the lowly AAC. The AAC isn't any good and success there does not translate. VPI found that out, Nebraska found that out.

Virginia Tech has a lot of work to get back to where it was. It just takes one inept coaching hire to do damage, as we both know.

I don't know how true it is, but reading the some of the discussions on VT boards and on the national rivals board there was some baggage with Bud Foster. Not sure what it was, but it was said to be one of the factors why he was never hired away by anyone else.

It does seem odd that a coordinator as successful as Foster would never get a shot to be a HC.

I have heard that he was/is an absolutely terrible interview and basically told the folks doing the hiring at VT following Beamer's exit that he would be head coach and that was it... Didn't want to do the fundraising, QB Club BS, Call-in show, summer football camp for middle school kids, etc.

There is more to being a good head coach than drawing up X's and O's, and some guys don't want/can't handle/aren't suited for that kind of responsibility and obligation.

its revisionist history to think KO ran off BP. KO begged him to stay. BP created all of this himself and has no one to blame other then him. KO didnt hire MS, Verna Gibson did.

Pruett quit on the team he wasn’t run off

“It was time.”
Certainly was not good timing from the football program’s pov…..
Line has dropped to 5. I expect (from my tutelage on this board) that means a lot of money is coming in from folks betting VT?

Pruett had been begging the AD for increased funds for recruiting and I even think and IPF so that we could continue to compete.

I remember Paul and Woody talking about the complacency that hit the athletic department in the late 90s. I believe it was Paul that said once JCE was built we felt we had arrived and needed nothing more to keep up. The voices inside and outside that were warning them that that wasn't the case were not listened to.

The athletic department got cocky after the 92-02 run and during that time did not do much to keep up with the direction that CFB was heading and now look at how much we're playing catchup.

That being said Pruett kind of dipped out before the hammer got dropped on us too.

The attitude that drove us to that run was not sustained.

what happened to Pruett was he played a bluff and much to the detriment of our football program the powers that be at that time called his bluff so Pruett resigned and they let him.

Pruett was promised lots of things that he felt the program needed to compete in CUSA when they didn’t come through Pruett threatened to quit if it didn’t happen and the Boatd of Governors at the time decided that we didn’t need Pruett so they called his bluff and said go ahead and quit.

Also Pruett asked for Larry Kueck to be named the head coach and they would continue to do everything the way they had been doing it. But nooo couldn’t do that we had to listen to verna Gibson and hire Mark Snyder which turned into a disaster.

BP wanted to be paid what Dick Rod made at WVU. End of story all the rest of IPF etc were smoke screens

I see you're still hanging on Doc's sack.

What's bad is neither side looks better than the other:

You have Pruett who could have stuck around and at least tried to coach the program to buyancy and possibly depart under better circumstances.
Instead he leaves just before spring practice starts. Essentially leaving his recruits, fans, and MU football high and dry.
Always left a bad impression on me that he did such a thing...because he kept coming around after, as if to say, "remember me? We won when I was here." Like, his resignation allows him to hang out while the program he abandoned, completely tanks.
Frankly, I think he has a fragile ego and while he brought MU to new heights, he was incredibly lucky for some talent he got and had some great illegal booster payments.

On the other hand, you have the MU BoG and AD, who thought they knew how to run a program and make the right hires, none of whom looked like they knew anything about football.
It bit them royally in the ass, since that one dumb floozy hired the most inept HC MU has ever had, the AD kept seeing MU as some stepping stone school who never could achieve greatness, and the landscape of college football changing so rapidly that what was 2 years ago is unrecognizable now.
They really didn't know what they were doing and damn near destroyed MU.

For a line to move four points in 24 hours, that means yes a LOT of money is coming in on VT... Considering the average opening line for football moves 1-2 points before the betting window closes at kickoff, a four point swing in such a short time is massive.

Regardless what anyone says, all parties began to take Marshall's success for granted. Pruett's recruiting took a significant hit during the probationary period. The quality of players wasn't the same. The turnover in assistant coaches also led to inconsistency on the field, the lack of fundraising and vision by the school and athletic administrations to continue a growth-oriented mindset, along with a willingness to be "satisfied" with what had been accomplished, all contributed to the next 15 years of mediocrity. Fans included in the total complacency of the program.

The NCAA doing away with Prop 19 also contributed. Not that all of our players were props by any means but it did allow for us to build quslity depth which a lot of G5 at the time couldn’t build

As I said. Everyone got complacent and you could make the argument we've stayed that way ever since.

Yea. You can't quit your job and then think you can appoint your replacement. Especially the timing of when he resigned. That to me was one of the worst parts. We were so close to Spring Camp.

BP left MU as he did for one reason. KO Marcum, the scum of the earth, Satan's vile servant, lied to him (and to the donors). BP had no other course than what he did to retain honor. That simple.

KO Marcum, and his incompetent compliance director, who testified that he had never actually read the NCAA Manual, killed MU football. He is a horrid person. MU sports is where it is today because KO Marcum, scum, was hired instead of an honest and qualified person.

BP and KO got along just fine. Besides BP had it written into his contract that he ( BP) answered to the president not KO
BP left because he wanted to be paid what Dick Rod made. End of story. It was all about money

According to Vegas Insider, 56% of the total bets have come in on VT, while 89% of the money has come in on Marshall.

That doesn’t make sense. If the money was coming in like that the line would become larger, not smaller. The goal is to have equal money on each side and they would move the line to entice more money on VT.

I not sure who was complacent but we did have an intermit for a president who had no clue how a football program worked.
Just look at the coaching hires since then in both sports and the entire mantra out of the athletic department. We had a member of the administration say on facebook that "We Play For Championships" was outdated thinking.

Hired Mark Snyder and then gave him and extension.
Hired Tom Herrion even though his track record was questionable.
Hired Doc which may have not been bad, but kept him for a decade as the program declined.
Hired Dan because we couldn't get Mike and had no other options because we went all in on Mike and now no matter what Dan does he's pretty much teflon.

There are a lot of instances of where the athletic department just kind of goes through the motions and then makes excuses for it. Just look at all the Mike Hamrick tweets that he considered to be "exciting".

Dude you couldn’t be more wrong literally you are completely full of crap on this. I know what happened.
Dude, I am 100% correct . BP wanted to paid like Dick Rod. BP , KO and Elsia went to dinner at BP Steak house in the Radison. Elsia asked KO who could stop all of this mess, KO pointed to BP. He could have reconsidered, and MU would have welcomed him back at any time before they hired MS.
You can call me full of crap, but that is what happened.
