There is not a person, alive or dead, that is worth hearing that much. I mean seriously, why the hell would you pay someone that much to drone on for 45+ minutes? Further proof that the world is f*cking nuts.

It's an absolute steal when you consider cheetos has received 1.5 million for a speech.
You know all this shit but you bought a phone of Tyrone in the hood?A lower to mid level rapper will make $40,000 for a 75 minute set. I think it shows that our priorities are correct when a recently sitting president commands 10x the amount that a lower to mid level rapper does.
I don't know the specifics of Obama's figure, but break down how the numbers could align:
500 businessmen willing to spend $200 for a nice meal and to hear a recently sitting president speak in person = $100,000
Each of those 500 businessmen pay for a top client to join them. That means a couple of hours of building more of a relationship with a top client, while giving them a pretty cool experience = $100,000
So, a business will pay $400 for an employee and top client to have a meal at an event. That's nothing to even small businesses.
There's still a $200,000 deficit to reach Obama's speaking fee.
It would be fairly easy to find two companies to spend $125,000 each to sponsor it. Each company gets 10 spots at the cocktail reception. That means each company could bring 5 of their top executives and 5 of their top clients to a rather small 20 person reception rubbing shoulders with the president for 30 minutes.
The sponsors also get mentioned before and after the speech, have their logos on the literature at each table, etc. There is now a $50,000 surplus which covers the meals ($50/plate x 1000 people).
The real issue is with Obama's lack of business acumen (assuming he is doing it as I think he is).
He is probably using a speaking agent company (a speaker's bureau of sorts to market, book him, collect the money, etc.). They will take 15% of his speaking fee. So, if he gives just one speech every month for a year at $400,000, he would lose at least $720,000 to his agency.
Instead, he should be hiring his own speaking agent to be his full-time agent. Pay the agent $150,000 to do nothing but collect the money, arrange the travel/security, and respond to inquiries for his speaking engagements. It would be the easiest job in the world and save Obama $570,000/year, minimum.
Somebody with a big name like Obama doesn't need the marketing aspect. Companies who can afford him know who he is and who they want. Stop outsourcing everything.
It's why I have been enamored with Taylor Swift. Even as a very young woman (late teens), she was wise beyond her years when it came to business and branding. She makes anywhere from $5 million - $50+ million per year depending on if it is a touring year, an album release year, or an off year. Almost all artists are managed by a company which also manages other artists. They charge approximately 15% of all earnings. So, if it's a year Taylor makes $50 million, she is losing $7.5 million to her management. She realized this early and hired her own personal management team. They don't have any other clients. She can get a hell of a good manager for $1 million per year. She could spend $100,000, for a very good manager assistant. Everything else (security, publicist, personal assistant, lawyer) would come out of her own pocket through a regular management company. She saves millions of dollars each year by keepin her management in house under her umbrella. Sure, she loses some on employee taxes, but it is still a huge gain.
Instead of renting management offices for her employees, she doubled-up. She knew she would have to pay hanger fees for her planes. So, she turned the hangers into also housing her management offices. They travel a lot, so it saves a lot of time not having to travel to/from the management offices to the airport. It saves a bunch of money not having to pay for separate office facilities. And since the offfices are on airport property, it also has optimal security.
I mentioned this years ago, but I don't understand why a school like Marshall doesn't step outside of the box and have concerts after their home games. For $70,000 ($35,000 each), they could get a good pop act (Lukas Graham) and a big up-and-coming country act (Maren Morris). They could get a decent rap name and a band that has a recognizable name for $35,000 each if only having to play 40 minute sets.
Have two artists from different genres. Have single game tickets be $35 that game. Included in the ticket, you get a hotdog/hamburger, bag of chips, and a drink. Without knowing the concession contract, Marshall could still make $30/ticket after the food. To break even, they would have to sell an extra 3000 tickets than they normally would have. That would cover the acts, their travel/lodging, and the cost for workers during the concert. So, a family of four would pay $140. I know that isn't pocket change in the Huntington region, but you get a football game, dinner, and two quality concerts. If that same family of four goes to the movies and eats there, they are paying half of that for 90 minutes of entertainment. The game and concerts provides different experiences and 5 hours of entertainment.
You could easily get 50 people to pay $100 each for a meet and greet with both artists. There is another $5000. You could easily get a business or private individual to pay $2500 to get 10 tickets granting access to the AD's box during the game, food, and have the acts contractually have to be in the box for a minimum of 20 minutes during the game. You could easily get a regional radio station to sponsor the concert and make thousands on that.
If done very poorly, you break even. But even in that case, you still get thousands of fans more than usual cheering on the home team, a better game atmosphere, free entertainment for the regular fans who would be at the game anyway, exposure for the program and school to thousands of new eyeballs, and a good branding of the school.
If you catch acts on a day off of touring in the region, all of those costs go drastically down.
You do those concerts during most two football games. You don't need it on the first home game. You don't need it at the homecoming game. You don't need it during a big rivalry game.
Check out what similarly sized schools do for their fall and spring fests. Sure, student activity fees go to cover those costs, but Marshall never does anything like many other schools of similar size.
Many football coaches this spring have had a jersey made with a visiting artist's last name on it to present to them at their on-campus shows. It's a win-win scenario all the way around.
Marshall and the athletic department miss out on golden opportunities.

If folks are dumb enough to pay $300.00 to see a musician perform hits from the 70's and 80's, one who proclaims to be embarrassed by his own country,, then why not be dumb enough to pay $400,000.00 to a guy 50% of our society now views as an emperor.
I'm still surprised he's not sitting in the chair for term 3.
Democrats have this thing wrapped up every four years, if they were simply able to use some common sense. The game plan is pretty simple. Run a Negro or a homosexual, and just tell them to not say much of anything during the campaign. Dress him/her up real nice, and do a bunch of photo-ops with trannies, babies, and Rosie O'Donnell.
Kunte kinte is going to stir up young folks all over every college campus's.Nothing but a trouble makin uncle tom. Hillary hates him and so does bill. Cheetos Whitey needs to look up the word presidential. You all argue all u want. The whole lot of them are dishonest and fake.
Well, he could have dropped the Big Nuclear Bomb to describe him. Would you feel better then? You called him Kunte Kente in one sentence and an Uncle Tom in another. 2 polar opposites
can somebody give me a 20 word or less summary?A lower to mid level rapper will make $40,000 for a 75 minute set. I think it shows that our priorities are correct when a recently sitting president commands 10x the amount that a lower to mid level rapper does.

"I want to be Obama's agent, but he wouldn't give me the time of day."
We're big fans.
Yesterday at 1:06? Tired.
What was I acting like that I'm not?
